The Interton Ready 480 HDO in review

Once again, we are focusing on a hearing aid from the company Interton. This time it is a standard hearing aid with a thick or thin plastic tube behind the ear, called the Ready 480 HDO. It is a slightly visible hearing aid, and in terms of price, it falls within a solid mid-range. It can be used for moderate to severe hearing loss. Let's take a look at what the inner workings have to offer:

Hearing comfort

Good speech understanding is a given in modern hearing aids. Equally important is hearing comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right can hearing be experienced as pleasant. That's why we take a look at the comfort features: With the Ready 480 HDO, we found only limited options for comfort adjustments. Normal background noises like street noise, the sound of the vacuum cleaner, or that from the fan should be attenuated by classic noise suppression. In this Interton hearing aid, we are not exactly spoiled, but we can manage with simple noise suppression.

A so-called "bang filter" would have been nice; it would have made the clattering when unloading the dishwasher a bit more bearable. But we have to do without that in the Ready 480 HDO. We found a basic wind detection feature, but unfortunately, there's nothing adjustable. Spatial hearing has convinced us in everyday life. It's not true 3D hearing, but you quickly forget that when wearing the hearing aids. With 12 frequency bands, you can achieve quite a decent sound. A passionate musician might not be fully satisfied with it, but this number is completely sufficient for normal hearing and sound needs.

Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is not yet present in the Ready 480 HDO.

Rating Hearing comfort: 4,2

Operation & connectivity

Most hearing aids automatically adjust to their surroundings. Nevertheless, it is sometimes very practical to be able to make adjustments oneself. After all, the hearing aid does not know how you are feeling at the moment. We looked at the control options offered by the Ready 480 HDO: For those who want to quickly and easily increase or decrease the volume, there is a button on the device. Additional programs for specific hearing situations can also be selected through it. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you're talking to speaks too quietly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.

Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but unfortunately, this one from Interton cannot yet. It would be practical when the fingers are not as agile anymore or if you simply like smart gadgets. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With it, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But this feature is not available in the Ready 480 HDO yet.

To improve usability, the manufacturer also provides us with an app for smartphones. The Interton app for Ready 480 HDO is impressive: not only can you change the volume, but you can also really influence the sound and various noise parameters. The Ready 480 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normally hearing individuals. We find this great and are happy to give points.

Simplicity & security

User-friendliness is the next aspect we want to address. This is about everyday usability and the question of how easy and safe it is to go through life with the hearing aid. We expected a bit more support in everyday hearing with the automatic situation recognition. The situations "Quiet" and "Noise" are recognized, but most of the time, the noise environment is somewhat more complex. A tool that would make it easier for us to acclimatize is an acclimatization manager. However, this is not available in this hearing aid. Therefore, we have to visit the hearing care professional from time to time to have the volume adjusted. Or we receive the necessary amplification right away and accept that it may be a bit too loud at the beginning.

Many hearing aids today have a rechargeable battery, but the Ready 480 HDO still operates with disposable batteries. This is somewhat cumbersome to handle and additionally burdens the environment.

The Ready 480 is almost dust and water resistant and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras

Finally, let's take a quick look at whether there are any extras: Are you among those suffering from tinnitus? Then you could use the optional tinnitus program on the Ready 480 HDO. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction tactic, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and is no longer bothersome. This is a simple yet effective tool and earns extra points from us.

A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a scarce resource. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. Those who need a new programming of their hearing aids can easily contact the audiologist through the app and describe their hearing preferences. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a custom setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be tested immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.

A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track some personal health data, for example. However, the Ready 480 HDO does not offer this. It would have been nice to have some lifestyle features, but these are not available in the Ready 480 HDO. Other hearing aids can score points with language translators or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.

Rating Extras: 2,5

Conclusion: Interton Ready 480 HDO

With a final score of 3.07, this model positions itself in the middle range. It has a fairly decent comfort equipment on board, which is sufficient for typical everyday moments and creates a satisfactory listening experience.
