Phonak is launching its Naida Marvel 90 SP, a conventional hearing aid from the high-end category. It is a slightly visible hearing aid for moderate to severe hearing loss and is worn behind the ear.
Hearing comfort
What is most annoying for hearing aid users: Exactly, background noise. That's why we'll first look at what comfort features the test device contains. The Naida Marvel 90 SP provides customers with comprehensive noise management. Normal noise cancellation is definitely present. It is intended to dampen constant sounds like traffic noise or the hum of the air conditioning. In our test device from Phonak, the manufacturer has put in effort and incorporated efficient noise reduction.
Short, loud noises are quickly recognized and effectively reduced in the Naida Marvel 90 SP, thanks to a controllable impulse sound suppressor. This device features really good wind management, making outdoor activities enjoyable. With 20 channels, the number of frequency bands in the Naida Marvel 90 SP is very high. This allows the hearing aid to be perfectly adjusted to every hearing ability and also offers good long-term tuning options. Spatial hearing in this model is almost lifelike. A sophisticated directional microphone technology allows for good directional hearing and creates a true 3D effect.
Other hearing aids are already using artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is not yet present in the Naida Marvel 90 SP.

Almost everyone of us owns a smartphone, so the question arises whether it can be connected to the new hearing aid. Let’s take a look at the connectivity and usability of the Naida Marvel 90 SP. There is usually a button on the hearing aid, and we have found one on the Naida Marvel 90 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. Those who don’t like to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for convenient and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Phonak unfortunately cannot. It would be practical if your fingers are not very mobile or if you simply like smart gadgets. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be possible, which would trigger a specific function by tapping your fingers on your ear. However, this option is not available in the Naida Marvel 90 SP.
Smartphone apps are now frequently offered to improve the usability of hearing aids. In our opinion, the Phonak app is one of the better ones because it offers a good set of adjustment options. The Naida Marvel 90 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy dual hearing aid phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. Simplicity & security
The user-friendliness is the next aspect we want to focus on. It is about everyday practicality and the question of how easy and safe it is to live with the hearing aid. The Naida Marvel 90 SP features an extensive set of stored listening situations. When a typical pattern is recognized, the hearing aid automatically activates the correct setting, fully automatically. The adjustment to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely balanced. I don't have to do anything except wear my hearing aids regularly.
We regret that the Naida Marvel 90 SP does not have a rechargeable battery but is powered by Hearing Aid Batteries size 13. This is not very problematic, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand, this hearing aid does not need to be charged daily; it runs for a longer time on a single battery.
With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse conditions. Dust cannot enter, it can also withstand longer submersion in water, and it is protected against contact.

Abschließend wollen wir wissen, ob das Hörgerät vielleicht noch Specials anbietet: Ein spezielles Tinnitusprogramm ist im Naida Marvel 90 SP auf Wunsch programmierbar. Damit können stimulierende, angenehme Geräusche generiert werden, die vom Tinnitus ablenken, wenn er mal wieder besonders stark ist. Das finden wir sehr nützlich und vergeben gerne Extrapunkte.
Die Möglichkeit zur Ferneinstellung finden wir richtig gut. Die ist immer dann sehr hilfreich, wenn man nur eine Kleinigkeit an der Hörgerät-Einstellung verändert haben möchte, aber nicht extra zum Hörakustiker fahren will. Den Kontakt nimmt man stattdessen über die App auf, und der Hörprofi schickt ein angepasstes Datenpaket auf dem gleichen Weg zurück.
Sensoren gibt es in dieser Naida Marvel 90-Variante nicht, so dass auch das beliebte Gesundheits-Tracking nicht angeboten werden kann. Dabei werden z.B. die Schritte über den Tag gezählt. Wie gesagt - dieses Hörgerät hat diese Funktion nicht an Bord. Das Gerät von Phonak konzentriert sich auf die wesentlichen Hörfunktionen und bietet keine Extras wie Srachassistenten oder Übersetzungsfunktion an. Das hätte zwar Spaß gemacht, ist für ein gutes Hörerlebnis aber nicht erforderlich.
