The G5 12 Sina from Audio Service is a delicate, small hearing aid that is worn in the ear. By using it in the position directly in the ear canal, very good sound transmission is possible. The G5 12 Sina is a hearing aid from the Business Class and is suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.

Hearing comfort

First, we looked at the comfort features. The better they are, the easier and more pleasant the hearing experience becomes. This hearing aid allows for solid comfort programming by the audiologist. The traditional noise suppression ensures that uniform, insignificant sounds are somewhat reduced. The G5 12 Sina reliably detects background noise but only reduces it moderately. Wind noise is another special topic. Anyone who has been outdoors with older hearing aids knows what we are talking about. However, with the G5 12 Sina, this is not a problem due to its design. The wind does not really reach the microphones because they are located in the ear canal.

Impulse sounds are identified and reliably cushioned. This is noticeable, for example, with typical kitchen noises or when handling paper or typing on a keyboard. The G5 12 Sina impresses us with its natural, spatial hearing. The outer ear maintains its function, making the 3D feeling just as if one were not wearing a hearing aid at all. 16 adjustable equalizer bands provide enough room to create a reliable, tailored listening experience.

Artificial intelligence-based strategies are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from Audio Service.

Operation & connectivity

Almost every one of us owns a smartphone, so it's natural to wonder if it can be connected to the new hearing aid. Let's take a look at how connectivity and usability are with the G5 12 Sina. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, you can change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to the customer's wishes. Of course, using it is optional. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is with the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you're talking to speaks too softly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or for driving can also be activated with the remote control.

Voice commands are a relatively new way of operating hearing aids. However, we do not have this option in this model yet. That's not a big deal - the main thing is that you can hear well. Besides buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have a tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch. However, we do not have that here at Audio Service; it would have required specific sensors.

Audio Service offers a suitable app for easier operation. However, it is not particularly well-equipped and hardly goes beyond basic functions like volume up/down and hearing programs. A connection option to other audio sources is not provided here. It's a shame, as a wireless streaming feature would have offered real added value.

Simplicity & security

How do you manage with the hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we are assessing. Because only if such a device works simply and straightforwardly can one become accustomed to it. The G5 12 Sina features a solid everyday automatic that is likely sufficient for a quieter life. However, for more complex hearing environments, we recommend the additional manual programs. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is achieved. This greatly eases the adjustment to the new sound.

Unfortunately, the G5 12 Sina is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, so regular size 10 batteries are needed for operation.

We had a carefree everyday experience during our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took the hearing aids out with wet hands - all no problem. However, the water resistance really only refers to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bathwater or saltwater.

Finally, we want to know if the hearing aid offers any specials: Audio Service has integrated a noise generator that plays a few soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.

What about remote maintenance? Such online services save a trip to the specialist store, as you can directly contact an acoustics professional through the app. Unfortunately, we couldn't find anything like that for the G5 12 Sina. Too bad, that would have been a great additional tool.

Many hearing aids today still come with a few health functions. However, since the G5 12 Sina lacks specific sensors for that purpose, we cannot present any particular features here. Other hearing aids do offer some advanced options like a fall alarm or reminder functions. We don't find that here, and that's not too dramatic, as the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
