Once again, we are focusing on a hearing aid from the company Audio Service. This time it is a traditional behind-the-ear hearing aid called the G5 16 Duo. It is a discreet hearing aid, and in terms of pricing, it is on the best quality level. It can be used for mild to moderate hearing needs. Let's take a look at what the inside has to offer:
Hearing comfort
The comfort features determine how pleasant hearing is experienced in everyday life. With this hearing aid, solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. A classic noise suppression is intended to reduce annoying background noises to a tolerable level. In the G5 16 Duo, we are satisfied with the effectiveness of the noise suppression. It can not only be turned on or off but also adjusted in stages. A slightly stronger wind noise reduction would be desirable, but the one in the G5 16 Duo is certainly bearable.
An impulse sound attenuator for short, explosive sounds is sensibly integrated here and is completely sufficient for everyday use. Spatial hearing is reliably supported by multifunction microphones and is certainly practical. For a precise, lifelike listening experience, the number of adjustable frequency bands is of great importance. With 20, this Audio Service device is a true top model and allows for nuanced fine-tuning over several years.
Audio Service does not yet work with artificial intelligence in this version.

Operation & connectivity
Most features of this audio service model are activated automatically. However, it is sometimes very useful to be able to expand the range of functions a little. In our test, we found out what options we have here. First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very practical because it is the easiest and fastest way to make adjustments. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to adjust anything directly on your ear, the button can, of course, be deactivated. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you're talking to is too quiet again, a click or two is enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated using the remote control.
In our test, we found no option for voice control. This feature is not necessarily required, but we would have appreciated it nonetheless. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of a finger without having to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.
It is very convenient to adjust the hearing aids via the app. There is also a free app for the G5 16 Duo. In our opinion, the range of functions is average, but generally sufficient. It is best to try it out in demo mode beforehand. A streaming option would not be bad for our digital everyday life. The device in question meets our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz radio module. This allows you to send calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.

Now let's take a look at how usage is shaped in everyday life. Is the handling easy? Do I get a safe device? In the G5 16 Duo, we experienced an effective situational automation that supports our hearing well. This already ensures that we don't have to constantly adjust the hearing aid. Some people find it difficult to get used to it, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually introduces us to the required target amplification. The duration can range from a few weeks to several months, which is individually adjustable. The individual stages are so small that you don't even notice that there has been a volume increase.
Unfortunately, the G5 16 Duo is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, so regular size 13 batteries are needed for operation.
We had a carefree everyday life in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - all no problem. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bathwater or seawater.

Extras
Finally, let's briefly check if there are any extras: Are you among those suffering from tinnitus? Then you could use the optional tinnitus program in the G5 16 Duo. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction maneuver, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and doesn't bother you anymore. This is a simple but effective tool and earns extra points from us.
An online contact with the acoustician via the app would be very useful. This is already quite common today and provides help with minor adjustment issues. Unfortunately, Audio Service has opted out of this and doesn't earn extra points for it.
If Audio Service had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, individual health tracking could even be possible. However, this is not the case here. These points are lost for the G5 16 Duo in the rating. It would have also been nice to have a few lifestyle features, but these are not available in the G5 16 Duo. Other hearing aids can score with language translators or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.

In the overall result, this test device ranks in the lower spots and misses some features. We give it a grade of 3.93. This is fine for less demanding listeners, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
