Our testers have taken another hearing aid at a lower price level under the microscope. We present: The ReSound Key 3 77-DW. Here we have a traditional hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. It can be used by anyone looking to compensate for mild to moderate hearing loss. The Key 3 77-DW is a discreet hearing aid. Is it worth buying this model? We will reveal the details.
Hearing comfort
Good speech understanding is a given in modern hearing aids. Equally important is hearing comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right will hearing be perceived as pleasant. That's why we take a look at the comfort features: In the Key 3 77-DW, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. Normal ambient noises like street noise, vacuum cleaner sounds, or fan noise should be dampened by classic noise suppression. In this ReSound hearing aid, there is only a minimal basic attenuation. A certain tolerance to noise should already be present for the hearing aid user here.
Points are deducted for the lack of impulse sound suppression. Normally, this dampens short, clattering noises. But those who choose this hearing aid should not be disturbed by this. For active outdoor fans, we always find wind noise management sensible. This device does have it, but it is not very powerful. It cannot be individually adjusted either. The microphones in the Key 3 77-DW can be directed forward in the line of sight. However, this is the only feature that somewhat supports spatial hearing. With 8 frequency bands, we are not entirely satisfied with the 77-DW, but for uncomplicated hearing curves, that should be sufficient. The sound will probably not be very natural with this setup.
Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data using artificial intelligence, but in this device, that is not yet the case.

How can you fully harness the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We found out what access options are available with the Key 3 77-DW. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With this, you can adjust the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to the customer's wishes. The use is, of course, optional. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person speaking to you is once again too quiet, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
We are always pleased when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. But this is not available in the Key 3 77-DW at the moment. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap of the finger in this ReSound model, as specific sensors in the housing would have been needed for that.
You can best adjust the Key 3 77-DW with the associated app. The first apps used to have just one screen, but this one offers much more than just the usual volume control function. Clearly, there are points from us here. You no longer need headphones, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds from the smartphone directly to the ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Next in the test: How is the user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to use the hearing aid? We receive relatively little support from the automatic program in the Key 3 77-DW. Without a few individual hearing programs, one likely won't manage in a lively everyday life. A great perk of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when you've had poor hearing for a while and are wearing a hearing aid for the first time, this is a huge relief. The volume doesn't have to be immediately turned up to the max. You can start at a lower level and gradually, and almost unnoticed, the amplification approaches the target.
The Key 3 77-DW is not rechargeable. It operates with size 13 hearing aid batteries. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: The daily charging of batteries is unnecessary, and the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on a single battery.
The data sheet certifies the ReSound device with an IP protection class of 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust doesn't stand a chance, and water doesn't penetrate the casing as long as it doesn't submerge deeper than 1.5 meters. However, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, though, you can behave completely carefree.

Extras
At the end of our test report, there is still a bit of space for the extra features: We noticed the tinnitus option here. If desired, one can have a special tinnitus program set up. This applies a gentle noise to the ears if needed, to distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be tailored to personal hearing preferences.
A real added value is the remote service. For a change in the hearing aid settings, it is no longer necessary to go to the specialist store; instead, one can directly contact the acoustician via the app. Through a cloud service, one can then load the new data package into the hearing aids. This is exactly what we expect from a modern hearing aid.
Many hearing aids still come with a few health functions today. However, since the Key 3 77-DW does not have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any particular features here. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle functions, but those are not available in the Key 3 77-DW. Other hearing aids can score points with features like speech translators or fall alerts, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.
