This test report is about the G6 8 Quix. It was developed by Audio Service and covers a mild to moderate hearing need. This variant is worn in the ear. G6 8 Quix is a small, barely visible hearing aid from an affordable price segment. We achieve clear sound transmission through the discreet placement in the ear canal.
Hearing comfort
The hearing comfort determines whether someone enjoys wearing their hearing aids or not. That's why we first looked at how the hearing aid deals with background noise. In this model, presented by Audio Service, solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. Of course, noise suppression is integrated, designed to reduce exhausting background noises. The G6 8 Quix features a reasonably effective noise reduction. This hearing aid can detect wind noises, but the reduction is hardly noticeable.
The blast filter in this hearing aid is quite solid and practical for everyday use. Spatial hearing with the G6 8 Quix occurs in a very natural way. Due to its special placement deep in the ear canal, the function of the outer ear is preserved, and there are no losses in directional hearing. Although the G6 8 Quix doesn’t have many adjustable equalizer bands, the 12 available should be sufficient for a good listening experience.
The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet in use here.

Operation & connectivity
“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there maybe an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, so let's take a look at the operation and connection options. We searched in vain for a button as a quick access option. It likely fell victim to the small design. That’s something we can live with, as most settings are adjusted automatically by the hearing aid anyway. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to make the hearing aid louder or quieter or to switch to another hearing program. No one notices it; reaching for the ear is not necessary.
We do not yet find the modern form of operation via voice command in the G6 8 Quix. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of a finger, without needing to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.
A suitable app is also provided for us. In everyday life, the app should suffice, but it doesn’t offer much more than a volume function and the ability to access different hearing programs. There is no connection option to other audio sources here. It’s a shame because a wireless streaming function would have provided real added value.

Simplicity & security
Usability is the next aspect we want to address. This is about practicality and the question of how easy and safe it is to live with the hearing aid. When it comes to simplicity, it initially refers to easy, effortless hearing. This works quite well with the existing situational automation in the G6 8 Quix. However, when the acoustic environment becomes a bit more diverse, the automation reaches its limits, and we prefer to resort to manual adjustment options. Some people find it difficult to get used to it, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to adjust to the new volume. There is an acclimatization manager that gradually leads us to the required target gain. The duration can range from a few weeks to several months, and it is individually adjustable. The individual steps are so small that you hardly notice there has been an increase in volume.
The G6 8 Quix is not rechargeable. It continues to get its energy from disposable batteries of size 10, which need to be replaced every few days.
Unfortunately, this hearing aid has no special protection against incoming dust or moisture; at least there is no certification defining the robustness of the device. It may not be very well suited for an active everyday life.

Extras
Finally, we want to know if the hearing aid perhaps offers any specials: The tinnitus program is certainly worth mentioning. Those plagued by bothersome ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, quiet sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and becomes hardly noticeable.
What about remote maintenance? Such online services save a trip to the specialized store because one can directly contact an acoustics professional through the app. Unfortunately, we couldn't find something like that for the G6 8 Quix. It's a shame, that would have been a great additional tool.
This G6 8 version does not have sensors, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered either. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have this function onboard. Other hearing aids already offer some extended options like a fall alert or reminder functions. We don't find that here, and that's really not so dramatic, because the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
