In this test report, we examine the G8 8 DIC. It was developed by Audio Service and covers mild to moderate hearing loss. This variant is worn in the ear. The G8 8 DIC is a tiny, barely noticeable hearing aid from a price range slightly above the average. We achieve clean sound transmission through the precise wearing position directly in the ear canal.

Hearing comfort

In the first chapter, we assess the quality of noise management. We refer to this as listening comfort, because these features determine how pleasant the hearing aid user perceives the sound of their hearing aids. However, noises can be of various natures and require very different tools for suppression. The G8 8 DIC allows for solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional. First, we look at noise suppression. This is designed to tame everyday sounds like the noise of ventilation or the refrigerator. In this audio service model, we have quite decent noise suppression. It may be too weak if you frequently navigate through traffic, but it's manageable in regular daily life.

Impulsive sounds are also detected by this device and tolerably reduced. This device can recognize wind and somewhat diminish the associated noise. 16 adjustable equalizer bands provide enough flexibility to create a reliable, tailored listening experience. Spatial hearing with the G8 8 DIC occurs in a completely natural way. Due to its special placement deep in the ear canal, the function of the outer ear is preserved, and there are no losses in directional hearing.

Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy has not yet been integrated into the G8 8 DIC.

Operation & connectivity

Most functions are activated automatically by this audio service model. However, it is occasionally very useful to be able to extend the functionality a bit more. In our test, we found out what options we have here. We searched in vain for a button as a quick access option. It has probably fallen victim to the small form factor. This is manageable, as most settings are made automatically by the hearing aid anyway. Upon request, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows you to effortlessly adjust the volume. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will also notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.

We do not yet find the modern form of voice command operation in the G8 8 DIC. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger without having to press an extra button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.

In the app store, we found an app from Audio Service for the G8 8 DIC. However, the app does not look very promising. We could not discover more than the basic functions. If you were looking forward to wireless streaming, we unfortunately have to disappoint you, as a wireless module has unfortunately not been integrated here.

Simplicity & security

For the next chapter, we subjected the hearing aid to a small practical test. We wanted to know if it is easy to use and uncomplicated in daily life. The G8 8 DIC features a solid automatic function for everyday use, which is probably sufficient for a quieter life. However, for more complex listening environments, we recommend the additional manual programs. The integrated acclimatization manager can be of great help as you enter the world of hearing aids. Its task is to gradually increase the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This way, you can relax and gradually acclimate to the new sound impressions. The G8 8 DIC is not rechargeable; it operates with hearing aid batteries. Unlike a rechargeable battery, it does not need to be charged daily, but the size 10 battery will need to be replaced after a few days.

The data sheet certifies the Audio Service device with an IP protection class rating of 68. This makes it one of the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water cannot enter the housing unless it is submerged deeper than 1.5 meters. However, be cautious. For example, shampoo changes the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, though, you can behave completely carefree.

Extras

As apps and hearing aids themselves continue to have more storage space, it's worth taking a look at possible extra features. Here's how it looks: Definitely worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. Those plagued by annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, soft sounds are set in such a way that they gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is no longer disruptive at all.

In these mobile times, a remote maintenance service via an app would be very helpful. This would allow for a comfortable creation of a new hearing aid programming from home. Unfortunately, this service is not available for the G8 8 DIC. Therefore, for any changes, you still have to visit the specialty store.

Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this audio service model lacks the sensors for this service. This audio service hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options on board. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need those for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
