The Signia Insio 7 IX IIC in review

This test report is about the Insio 7 IX IIC. It was developed by Signia and covers mild to moderate hearing loss. This variant is worn in the ear. The Insio 7 IX IIC is a tiny, barely noticeable hearing aid from the highest quality segment. We achieve clear sound transmission through the wearing position directly in the ear canal.

Hearing comfort

Our first test category is hearing comfort. Actually, we could also say sound comfort, because that's what it's mainly about. Does the hearing aid sound very technical or beautifully natural? Are too many background noises amplified, or do they stay quite well in the background? In this device from Signia, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. The noise reduction is a very traditional feature; it filters out all rumbling, uniform sounds from the environment and reduces their loudness. The Insio 7 IX IIC has a quite respectable noise reduction. Even when it gets louder, the listening experience remains pleasant.

In this device, we find a really good wind management system, making it enjoyable to be outdoors. There is also a so-called bang filter here. It cushions short and loud sounds a bit. This is a sensible function, but we would have wished for a bit more adjustment depth. With 20 channels, the frequency band count in the Insio 7 IX IIC is very high. This allows the hearing aid to be perfectly tuned to any hearing and offers good long-term tuning options. Spatial hearing with the Insio 7 IX IIC occurs in a very natural way. Due to the special placement deep in the ear canal, the function of the outer ear is preserved, and there are no losses in directional hearing.

Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is not yet present in the Insio 7 IX IIC.

Rating Hearing comfort: 1,6

Operation & connectivity

Buttons, presses, switches ... or would you prefer an app? Control elements can significantly expand the functionality of hearing aids. Is there something like this in the Insio 7 IX IIC? We checked. First, we're interested in whether there's a button on the device. Unfortunately, we are disappointed with the IIC; there is no immediate adjustment option. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it's one of the most convenient ways to increase or decrease the volume or switch to another listening program. No one notices it, and there's no need to reach for the ear.

Voice commands are a fairly new way of operating hearing aids. However, in this model, we do not have this option yet. That's not a big deal - the main thing is that you can hear well. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap in this Signia model, as specific sensors would have been needed in the housing for that.

The app is not among our highlights. But at least - there is one. And in times when almost every hearing aid user also owns a smartphone, it is certainly useful. Unfortunately, we have to forgo a streaming function here and continue to hold the smartphone to the ear in the usual way.

Rating Operation & connectivity: 3,3

Simplicity & security

We continue our test and explore how easy it is to handle this hearing aid. After all, it is meant to simplify the everyday life of hearing aid users and not complicate it further. With top-class situation recognition, the Insio 7 IX IIC completely impressed us. The hearing aid seamlessly adapts to the acoustic environment and rarely requires our intervention. Hearing feels completely normal. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has been hearing poorly for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is a tremendous relief. The volume does not have to be turned up immediately to the maximum. One can start at a lower level, and gradually, almost unnoticed, the amplification approaches the target.

The Insio 7 IX IIC is not rechargeable. It operates with size 10 hearing aid batteries. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: The daily recharging of batteries is eliminated, and the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on a single battery.

We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and discover in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This means that dust cannot enter at all, and water only becomes a threat after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Rating Simplicity & security: 1,8

Extras

Before we conclude, let's take a look at the extras: We noticed the tinnitus option here. If you wish, you can set up a special tinnitus program. This creates a gentle noise in your ears if needed, to help distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be designed according to personal hearing preferences.

A nice feature would be a remote maintenance service, to receive help from a hearing professional even when you can't make it to the store. Unfortunately, this service is not available here, so there's no extra point for that.

Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which are unfortunately not present in the Insio 7 IX IIC. The functionality of the Insio 7 IX IIC is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional features like fall alerts or Siri integrations offer significant added value, but they are not relevant for achieving good hearing balance.
