Hearing comfort
In the Hearing Comfort section, we look at how a hearing aid handles all the background noise. Comfortable noise management significantly contributes to whether a user likes and regularly wears their hearing aids. In this Beltone device, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. Regular noise suppression aims to dampen uniform, rumbling background noises. In the Serene 9 CIC, noise suppression can be adjusted according to the customer's preferences.
Short and loud sounds are usually annoying, but this model has an adjustable impulse sound control. This makes sounds like cutlery clattering, closing drawers, or crumpling newspapers feel less unpleasant. Operation & connectivity
The operation options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as one would like. The basic functions run fully automatically, of course. We wanted to find out how users can additionally access the Serene 9 CIC. The simplest method of operation is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has that feature, too. It can be programmed to suit your needs. Do you want manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a step-by-step adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who prefers to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. Unfortunately, this hearing aid cannot be adjusted via a remote control – a few points are lost because of this.
The modern form of operation via voice command is not yet found in the Serene 9 CIC. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With this, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. However, this is not available in the Serene 9 CIC yet.
Although smartphone apps are offered for many hearing aids today, unfortunately, Beltone has not yet provided one for its Serene 9 CIC. Wireless connectivity options are completely lacking in this variant. This is no longer quite up to date, but it is likely due to the small size of the hearing aid.

We continue the test with a brief assessment of how easy everyday use will be. Is it complicated? Do I need to be particularly careful? Or do I not need to pay attention to anything else? The Serene 9 CIC features a comprehensive set of stored listening situations. When a typical pattern is recognized, the hearing aid automatically activates the correct setting, and it does so fully automatically. The adjustment to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It gradually adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I only need to do one thing: wear my hearing aids regularly.
Serene 9 CIC relies on battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: Very long runtime with a single battery. Unlike rechargeable solutions, you rarely have to deal with power supply issues. Disadvantage: It generates waste in the form of used batteries. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery size 10.
We had a carefree daily life in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then removed the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bathwater or saltwater.

At the end of our test report, there is still a bit of room for extra features: Worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. This will benefit anyone who is plagued by annoying ear noises. Pleasant, quiet sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is no longer bothersome. Unfortunately, there is no option for remote adjustment. Therefore, anyone who needs optimization and wants to change their hearing aid settings must visit an acoustic professional. Tracking health data is a real asset in modern hearing aids. However, this Beltone model lacks the sensors for this service. The device from Beltone focuses on essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation features. While that would have been fun, it is not necessary for a good hearing experience.
