Due to its comfortable and acoustically favorable position in the ear canal, we achieve a good, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
The hearing comfort determines whether someone likes to wear their hearing aids or not. That's why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. With this model, presented by Bernafon, we found very few options for influencing comfort. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to reduce exhausting background sounds. However, in the Alpha 1 ITC, it only functions to a limited extent. If we look at the price, this might actually be appropriate. This device can detect wind and slightly dampen the noise.
Unfortunately, we did not find a noise filter that reacts to short, loud sounds. The natural spatial hearing is lacking in this device, which certainly creates some difficulties in everyday life. We are no longer able to consistently identify directions. Those with limited vision should opt for a different hearing aid. With 12 frequency bands, one can already achieve a pretty good sound. A passionate musician may not be fully satisfied with it, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is quite sufficient.
Interestingly, artificial intelligence also plays a role in signal processing here. The sound is not only analyzed based on typical frequency patterns. Particularly intense, noisy situations are thus perceived as more realistic and pleasant.

Operation & connectivity
The majority of hearing aids automatically adapt to their surroundings. However, it can sometimes be very practical to make adjustments yourself. After all, the hearing aid does not know how you are currently feeling. We looked into the control options the Alpha 1 ITC offers: For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume up or down, there is a button on the device. Additional programs for special hearing situations can also be selected through it. We do like the small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows for discreet adjustments to the volume or sound.
We are always pleased when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control here. However, that is currently not available in the Alpha 1 ITC. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be possible, which would trigger a specific function by tapping your fingers on your ear. However, this option is not available in the Alpha 1 ITC.
An app on the smartphone is supposed to make operation easier, and we found one for the Alpha 1 ITC as well. In addition to basic functions like volume and programs, we found a few more buttons for personalization. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone can be transmitted to the hearing aids without additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into a perfect hands-free system or a wireless headphone. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is also incredibly comfortable.

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality for everyday use. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. Unfortunately, when it comes to simple hearing, the Alpha 1 ITC does not perform very well. The situation automation is quite stripped down, so we receive little support when it gets loud around us. This can be compensated by using the manual adjustment options. However, this hardly scores any points in terms of simplicity. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This greatly facilitates the adjustment to the new sound.
The Alpha 1 ITC is not rechargeable. It uses hearing aid batteries size 312. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: The daily charging of batteries is eliminated, and the hearing aid can run continuously for several days on a single battery.
The hearing aid has been classified in protection class IP68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against the ingress of dust. Water cannot easily damage the hearing aid either. This makes it well-equipped for outdoor activities where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not go swimming or bathing with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and ultimately cause damage.

At the end of our test report, there's still a bit of space for extra features: Are you one of the tinnitus sufferers? Then you could use the optional tinnitus program in the Alpha 1 ITC. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction maneuver, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and is no longer bothersome. It's a simple yet effective tool and earns extra points from us. You receive a very good added benefit from the remote maintenance offer. Through the app, you can contact your audiologist and explain your hearing issues. They can adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. For people with little time or a long way to travel, this is a great service. There are no sensors in this Alpha 1 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have this function on board. Get even more out of the Alpha 1 ITC by utilizing the smart lifestyle features. They expand the operational range of the hearing aids with various assistance programs and significantly enhance the functionality.
