Of course, this Bernafon device includes noise suppression, as it has become standard. Noise suppression means that steady and rather monotonous sounds (e.g., air conditioning, vacuum cleaner...) are dampened. Here we are not necessarily dealing with a high-performance variant, but in most listening situations, the noise suppression should be sufficient.

In our test, we also discovered impulse sound control. This reduces short, sharp sounds. It works reasonably well here, but we are not in the premium class. A multi-stage wind noise management system is also included. This ensures that listening is pleasant and free from disturbances, even outdoors. The more bands the equalizer in the hearing aid has, the more reliably it separates speech from background noise. The sound can also be shaped better. The Alpha XT 5 MNR T R has 18 bands and thus counts as one of the more powerful models. Adaptive microphone systems facilitate spatial hearing. However, you need to get used to the new sound a bit; especially at the beginning, it may not always be clear where a sound is coming from.

We looked at the control options offered by the Alpha XT 5 MNR T R: The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has that as well. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you desire manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for stepwise adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who wants to leave everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it disabled. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very handy. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to increase or decrease the volume or switch to another hearing program. No one notices it, there's no need to reach for your ear.

Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Bernafon unfortunately cannot yet. That would be practical if your fingers are not as agile anymore or if you simply like smart gadgets. Tap Control would also have been an interesting feature. With that, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But that's not available here in the Alpha XT 5 MNR T R yet.

Smartphone apps are now often offered for better usability of hearing aids. In our assessment, the app from Bernafon is one of the better ones because it offers a good set of adjustment options. You don't need headphones here anymore, as it has a wireless option and can stream sounds directly from the smartphone to your ears – if the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Now let's take a look at how the usage is implemented in everyday life. Is the handling simple? Do I get a secure device? Typical hearing situations that everyone experiences in their environment are reliably recognized and adjusted through automatic settings. However, for more specific, recurring requirements, one cannot avoid using the manual hearing programs. Some people find it difficult to get used to it, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually leads us to the needed target amplification. The duration can vary from a few weeks to several months, and this is individually adjustable. The individual steps are so small that you don't even notice that there has been an increase in volume.

The Alpha XT 5 MNR T R is rechargeable and no longer requires batteries. This is not only environmentally friendly, but also very convenient to use and frees me from the burden of constantly thinking about battery replacements.

With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand all sorts of adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it can endure prolonged submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.

Leise, sanfte Klänge werden auf Ihr Gehör abgestimmt und beschäftigten alle Bereiche im Innenohr. Das ist nichts weiter als ein Ablenkungsmanöver, und es funktioniert erstaunlich gut. Der Tinnitus verschwindet in dem allgemeinen Geräusch und nervt nicht weiter. Das ist ein einfaches, aber wirksames Tool und bekommt von uns Extrapunkte.

Einen sehr guten Zusatznutzen erhält man durch das Angebot der Fernwartung. Über die App kann man mit seinem Hörakustiker Kontakt aufnehmen und sein Hörproblem schildern. Der kann die Einstellung entsprechend verändern und über die App in die Hörgeräte laden. Für Menschen mit wenig Zeit oder einem weiten Anfahrtsweg ist das ein toller Service.

Sensoren gibt es in dieser Alpha XT 5-Variante nicht, so dass auch das beliebte Gesundheits-Tracking nicht angeboten werden kann. Dabei werden z.B. die Schritte über den Tag gezählt. Wie gesagt - dieses Hörgerät hat diese Funktion nicht an Bord. Die App von diesem Bernafon-Gerät sollten Sie mal genauer unter die Lupe nehmen. Da stecken nämlich ein paar Extras drin, die den Funktionsumfang dieser Hörgeräte nochmal deutlich ausweiten. Wir finden diese Zusatzfunktionen wirklich klasse!
