The amplification performance is suitable for mild to severe hearing losses, and just by being directly placed in the ear canal, it has a quite decent sound. The Encanta 300 CIC is a very small hearing aid from the premium category. It is worn in the ear.
Hearing comfort
Right from the start, we address the topic of hearing comfort. By this, we mean all the features that ensure an overall pleasant, rich, and uninterrupted sound experience. In the Encanta 300 CIC, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management.
Classic noise suppression is, of course, also present here. Its purpose is to detect and slightly soften simple sounds from the environment. In this Bernafon model, Bernafon has implemented effective noise reduction. It operates at a high performance level and offers the user very good comfort. Rapidly occurring, rattling noises are noticeably and adequately dampened, which we perceive as pleasant.
Wind noises are only perceived as disturbing when they directly hit a hearing aid microphone. However, since this Bernafon model sits very deep in the ear canal, that cannot happen. This device is therefore ideally suited for outdoor-oriented individuals. Spatial hearing needs to be trained a bit with these hearing aids. While the movable microphones help, their position at the top of the ear shell makes spatial sound not quite the same as that of a normal hearing person. However, after a short acclimatization period, spatial hearing works rather well. A very important factor for good speech-noise distinction is the number of frequency bands. With 20, this hearing aid is among the best and offers excellent adjustment options. Understanding speech in a noisy environment is always a challenge. Bernafon addresses this issue by employing artificial intelligence. The result is brilliant and clear speech transmission, while the ambient noises continue to reach the ear at a realistically loud level.

Operation & connectivity
The operation options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as one would like. The basic functions run fully automatically, of course. We wanted to know how, as a user, one can further access the Encanta 300 CIC. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. This can be used to adjust the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer specifications. The usage is, of course, optional. Remote controls for hearing aids are actually common today, but Bernafon has not provided one for this device.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Bernafon unfortunately cannot yet. This would be practical if fingers are no longer very mobile or if one simply likes smart gadgets. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be conceivable, which would activate a specific function by tapping the ear with the fingers. However, this option is not available in the Encanta 300 CIC.
Quickly increasing the volume via the app - unfortunately, that's not possible with the Encanta 300 CIC. No app is available for this purpose. However, this is irrelevant if you are not a smartphone user anyway. There is no connection option to other audio sources provided here. It's a pity because a wireless streaming function would have offered real added value.

Let's continue with the test: How is the user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? The situational automation of the Encanta 300 CIC incorporates almost everything you might experience in everyday life. It provides me with the perfect setting at any time, without me having to do anything actively. Especially in varying situations, this is extremely convenient and allows me to almost forget the hearing aid is on my ear. The integrated adaptation manager can be a great help when entering the world of hearing aids. Its task is to gradually increase the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This way, you can relax and gradually acclimate to the new auditory sensations. We also take a look at the robustness of the casing and discover from the data sheet that it has an IP 68 protection class. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes dangerous after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

At the end of our test report, there is still a bit of space for the extra features: We were really impressed by the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a number of people who are occasionally or frequently troubled by a ringing or rushing sound in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Encanta 300 CIC is actually nothing more than a sound generator. It is about creating broadband noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all hearing ranges. The tinnitus gets overshadowed and is no longer perceived as disturbing. What about remote maintenance? Such online services eliminate the need for a visit to the specialty store, as you can directly contact an acoustics professional through the app. Unfortunately, we did not find anything like this for the Encanta 300 CIC. It's a shame; it would have been a great additional tool. Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Bernafon model lacks the necessary sensors for this service. This Bernafon hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you do not need those for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
