The Entra B 10 MNR T R is a nice, discreet hearing aid from the more affordable category. The clear sound transmission is achieved through the speaker that sits directly in the ear canal.

Hearing comfort

First, we assess the hearing comfort features. What types of noises does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied daily life? Here with this test device, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. As with all hearing aids, we also find the typical noise suppression here. It is supposed to reduce monotone, noisy background sounds to the extent that they no longer dominate. We shouldn't expect too much from the Entra B 10 MNR T R. Speech and noises are quite close together here. However, in acoustically simple situations, this should be sufficient.

Wind noise can sometimes become a problem outdoors. Therefore, a moderate wind noise management system is integrated here. Unfortunately, we did not find a burst filter that reacts to short, loud noises. A decent basis for programming the Entra B 10 MNR T R is provided by the 12 equalizer bands. As sound junkies, we wish for a few more, but for the typical situations we encounter in our daily lives, one can create a reasonable sound profile from this. Unfortunately, nothing can be said about spatial hearing here; the microphones have no additional functions that could enhance directional hearing.

Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy has not yet been implemented in the Entra B 10 MNR T R.

Every person has their own unique hearing needs. It is beneficial to be able to customize hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In the test, we discovered the following access options: There is a button directly on the hearing aid. This allows you to change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed entirely according to customer preference. The use is of course optional. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you are talking to speaks too softly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or for driving can also be activated with the remote control.

For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids using voice commands to make them louder or quieter. The idea is really good, but Bernafon has not reached that point with this device yet. Don't worry, this feature would be nice but is not essential. In addition to buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have a tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch. However, we do not have that here at Bernafon; it would have needed specific sensors for that.

An app on the smartphone is intended to make operation easier, and we have found one for the Entra B 10 MNR T R. In addition to basic functions like volume and programs, we find a few more buttons for personalization. You don't need headphones anymore, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to your ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security

In the next step, we want to address the topic of user-friendliness. Is the Entra B 10 MNR T R easy to use? Is it weather-resistant? Do you have to do a lot to get along with it? Here are our answers: The first points in the chapter on simplicity are lacking for the Entra B 10 MNR T R, as it does not have automatic adjustments for fitting. We have to manually adjust it until we can manage in the respective hearing situation. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It raises the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly eases the adaptation to the new sound.

A highly useful development in recent years, in our opinion, is the integrated rechargeable battery. We are used to recharging electronic devices in our everyday lives. And the Entra B 10 MNR T R is also rechargeable, allowing us to avoid the annoying battery changes.

We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and discover the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes a danger after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Before we reach the end, let's take a look at the extras: We were really impressed by the optional tinnitus program. There are relatively many people who are occasionally or frequently plagued by a ringing or buzzing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Entra B 10 MNR T R is essentially just a sound generator. It's about producing broad-spectrum noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all areas of hearing. The tinnitus gets lost in it and is no longer perceived as disturbing.

A real added value is provided by the remote maintenance service. There's no longer a need to go to the specialist shop for a change in hearing aid settings; instead, you can contact the audiologist directly via the app. You can then load the new data package into the hearing aids via a cloud service. This is exactly what we expect from a modern hearing aid.

Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Entra B 10 MNR T R. In conjunction with a smartphone, the Entra B 10 MNR T R surprises us with a few nice lifestyle features. It is definitely worth getting thoroughly familiar with the app and using the available assistance programs.
