Once again, we find ourselves in the test lab, and this time we had a product from Bernafon in our hands, or rather, on our ear. The full product name is Entra B 20 MNR T R, and it is classified among devices in the budget segment. By placing the speaker directly in the ear canal, it has good acoustic properties. The Entra B 20 MNR T R is worn behind the ear, and it is a small hearing aid suitable for both mild and more severe hearing needs.
Hearing comfort
Our first test category is hearing comfort. Actually, we could also say sound comfort, as that is the main focus. Does the hearing aid sound very technical or beautifully natural? Are too many background noises amplified, or do they remain relatively in the background? In this device from Bernafon, we found very few options for influencing comfort. The noise cancellation is a very traditional feature; it filters out all random, uniform sounds from the environment and reduces their volume. In the Entra B 20 MNR T R, we have quite decent noise suppression. It may be too weak if you are often in traffic, but it suffices for regular daily life. This device can detect wind and slightly reduce the sound. Our test discovered impulse sound damping. It softens popping, rapidly occurring noises a bit. With 14 frequency bands, you can achieve quite a good sound. A passionate musician may not be entirely satisfied with it, but this number is perfectly sufficient for normal hearing and sound needs. Unfortunately, nothing can be said about spatial hearing here; the microphones have no additional function that could enhance directional hearing. With artificial intelligence, Bernafon has not yet implemented this in this version.

Operation & connectivity
Sometimes it is not so bad if you can adjust the volume of the hearing aid a little, for example, when the neighbor is loudly mowing the lawn or someone is speaking very quietly to you. Many models therefore have special operating functions. You can use them, but you don't have to. We looked at this with the Entra B 20 MNR T R: usually there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Entra B 20 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. Those who are not keen on touching their ear to raise the volume will be pleased with the optional remote control. This allows you to make changes to the hearing aid conveniently and discreetly.
In the test, we did not find any option for voice control. This feature is not necessarily necessary, but we would have appreciated it nonetheless. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tap control. You simply tap your ear with your fingers, which triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this Bernafon device.
As is common today, we also find a smartphone app for the Entra B 20 MNR T R. This app contains solid basic functions and adds a few extra goodies. You no longer need headphones here, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to your ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

For easy handling in everyday life, energy supply is definitely a consideration. The Entra B 20 MNR T R has an integrated battery and is rechargeable. As one charge will definitely last the whole day, we don’t have to worry about the battery running out in the middle of a conversation.
The data sheet certifies the Bernafon device with an IP protection class of 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust doesn’t stand a chance, and water cannot enter the housing unless it is submerged deeper than 1.5 m. Be cautious, though. For example, shampoo alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave carefree.

Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we find something here: We really liked the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who occasionally or frequently suffer from a ringing or buzzing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Entra B 20 MNR T R is basically just a sound generator. It works by creating broadband noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all areas of hearing. The tinnitus gets drowned out and is no longer perceived as disturbing.
We find the remote maintenance service quite exciting, which can be utilized. If one does not have the opportunity to visit the hearing care professional, they can instead contact them via the app, briefly describe their hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, they can upload it to their hearing aids.
Many hearing aids still come with a few health features today. However, since the Entra B 20 MNR T R does not have any special sensors for that, we cannot present any specifics here. This Bernafon device still has a few small highlights. Depending on what your smartphone supports, you can be reminded of appointments, access Siri, or use other assistance systems. This definitely adds an extra point.
