Bernafon introduces its Leox UP 7 HDO 675, a traditional hearing aid from the high-end price range. It is a suitably large hearing aid for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing needs and is worn behind the ear.

Hearing comfort

Good speech understanding is a given in modern hearing aids. Equally important is listening comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right will listening be perceived as pleasant. Therefore, let's take a look at the comfort features: With the Leox UP 7 HDO 675, we found very few options for influencing comfort. Normal ambient noises such as street noise, vacuum cleaner sounds, or those from a fan are to be dampened by a classic noise suppression system. In this Bernafon hearing aid, there is only a minimal basic attenuation. Users of this hearing aid should already have a certain tolerance for noise.

Our test discovered impulse sound suppression. It slightly softens sharp, sudden sounds. There is a basic wind noise reduction. Outside, this is quite useful, but it is not sufficient for a strong autumn wind. The microphone technology is kept rather simple. The hearing aids cannot create a true spatial feeling as normal-hearing individuals do. When trying to assess directions or distances through hearing, one must be cautious; this is only reliably achievable after a certain acclimatization period, if at all. With 14 frequency bands, one can achieve a fairly good sound. A passionate musician may not be entirely satisfied with this, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is more than adequate.

An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet applied in this Bernafon model.

Bernafon: TV Adapter

Bernafon Leox UP 7 HDO 675: With this adapter, the hearing aid wearer streams their favorite shows directly to the hearing aids and enjoys sound in Dolby Digital® stereo quality. The TV adapter is easy to set up and can be paired with the hearing aids.

Operation & connectivity

The operation of hearing aids today is as simple or as complex as anyone would like. The basic functions, of course, run automatically. We wanted to know how users can further access the Leox UP 7 HDO 675. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, you can adjust the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. The use is, of course, optional. Upon request, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows for easy volume adjustment. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are currently adjusting your hearing aids.

The modern form of operation via voice command is not yet found in the Leox UP 7 HDO 675. In addition to buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have a tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch. However, we do not have this at Bernafon; it would have required very specific sensors.

Manual operation includes an app. This allows for discreet access to the hearing aid. In addition to volume control, you can also adjust hearing programs and a few other functions. The Leox UP 7 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy phone calls in both ears. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearers. We find this good and are happy to give points.

Bernafon: Man sitting in front of his laptop in the cafe.

Bernafon Leox UP 7 HDO 675: For many people with hearing problems, digital communication is a challenge. Often, the speaker quality of laptops and similar devices is not very good. The SoundClip can help with this. It is a small accessory that connects multimedia devices to hearing aids via Bluetooth. The sounds are streamed directly into the ear in this way. The sound quality is often significantly better this way. The SoundClip also has a built-in microphone, so it can be used as a hands-free device.

Simplicity & security

Let's continue with the test: How does it perform in terms of usability? Is it easy or complicated to use the hearing aid? We receive relatively little support from the automatic programs in the Leox UP 7 HDO 675. Without a few individual hearing programs, one might struggle to manage in a lively daily environment. This device supports the adjustment to the new hearing experience with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I just have to remember to wear my hearing aids regularly.

The Leox UP 7 HDO 675 is not rechargeable. It continues to draw power from disposable size 675 batteries, which need to be replaced every few days.

We also take a look at the robustness of the casing and discover the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This means that dust cannot get in at all, and water only becomes a risk after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Rating Simplicity & security: 2,8

Extras

Sometimes hearing aids come with additional features that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this Bernafon device: Bernafon has integrated a noise generator that plays some soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.

A very good additional benefit is offered through the remote maintenance option. Through the app, you can contact your hearing care professional and describe your hearing problem. They can adjust the settings accordingly and load them into the hearing aids via the app. For people with little time or a long journey, this is a great service.

This Leox UP 7 variant does not have sensors, so popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have that function. With devices like this from Bernafon, our test reports are getting longer, as there are now also intelligent additional functions. Various assistants make life easier for you and are personalized in the app. While this is not strictly necessary, it is a lot of fun. For this, we give it a good rating.

Conclusion: Bernafon Leox UP 7 HDO 675

In summary, this device ranks in the lower positions and offers us hardly more than a solid basic equipment. Of course, one can understand speech with the device, just like with all hearing aids, but not much is done to alleviate listening effort. Our overall rating: 4.84. Please always consider this rating in relation to the price range of this hearing aid.
