Hearing comfort
First, we evaluate the hearing comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied daily life? Here in this test device, we find only the absolute basics regarding hearing comfort. As with all hearing aids, we also find the typical noise suppression here. It is supposed to reduce monotonous, noisy background sounds so much that they no longer stand out. However, with the Viron 1 MNR T, its effectiveness is very limited. Looking at the price, this could certainly fit.
This hearing aid can recognize wind noise, but the reduction is barely noticeable. Even in more affordable hearing aids, we often find attenuation for impulsive, clattering sounds today. But unfortunately, this clever tool is not included here, which is very unfortunate. The number of equalizer bands is very important for adapting to hearing needs. The MNR T provides us with only 8 and does not allow for many fine-tuning options in the long term. We have to forgo spatial hearing with the Viron 1 MNR T, but at least we can switch the microphones to a focus mode.
The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet in use here.

The simplest operation option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it too. It can be programmed according to your preferences. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a step-by-step adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional everyday life or your hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who prefers to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. Those who don’t like to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for convenient and discreet changes to the hearing aid.
The modern form of operation via voice command is not yet found in the Viron 1 MNR T. Besides buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids still have a tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device switches modes. However, we don’t have that here at Bernafon; specific sensors would have been required for that.
It is very convenient to adjust the hearing aids via the app. There is also a free app for the Viron 1 MNR T. In our opinion, the functionality is mediocre but usually sufficient. It’s best to try it out in demo mode beforehand. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone are transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into the perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is incredibly comfortable.

An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality for everyday use. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. We receive relatively little support from the automatic programming in the Viron 1 MNR T. Without a few individual hearing programs, one might struggle to cope in a lively everyday environment. The adaptation to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable increments until my hearing loss is completely balanced. I don't have to do anything other than wear my hearing aids regularly.
Many hearing aids today come with a rechargeable battery, but the Viron 1 MNR T still operates with disposable batteries. This is somewhat cumbersome to handle and also puts a strain on the environment.
We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and find in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only poses a danger after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and gladly give extra points.
We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be utilized. If one does not have the opportunity to visit the audiologist, one can instead contact them via the app, briefly describe their hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, one can download it to their hearing aids.
Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Bernafon model lacks the sensors for this service. In conjunction with a smartphone, the Viron 1 MNR T surprises us with a few nice lifestyle features. It is definitely worth familiarizing oneself thoroughly with the app and using the offered assistance programs.
