What hearing comfort does the Viron 3 MNR T offer? How is it operated? Is the purchase worth it? You can find answers to these questions in our review of this hearing aid from Bernafon. First, the basics: It is worn behind the ear, and due to the comfortable position of the speaker in the ear canal, sound can easily travel towards the eardrum. This is important, as only in this way can a truly good, broadband sound be produced.

The Viron 3 MNR T is a small mini hearing aid from an affordable price range that can cover almost any hearing need. Read on for more details:

Hearing comfort

The comfort features determine how pleasant listening is experienced in everyday life. In this hearing aid, we find only the absolute essentials regarding listening comfort. A classic noise suppression aims to reduce annoying background noises to a bearable level. In the Viron 3 MNR T, a stronger noise reduction would be desirable, but that is reserved for higher-end hearing aids. We have found a basic wind noise detection, but unfortunately, nothing is adjustable.

According to the manufacturer, impulse sound suppression is integrated, but we could hardly feel it. A natural spatial hearing is missing in this device, and that certainly poses some difficulties in everyday life. We cannot reliably detect directions anymore. Anyone with limited vision should opt for a different hearing aid. We also take a look at the number of equalizer bands: the Bernafon device has 10. We are not really happy with that; the options for sound shaping are indeed quite limited. However, it is sufficient for good speech understanding.

In this version, Bernafon does not yet use artificial intelligence.

Operation & connectivity

The majority of functions are activated automatically by this Bernafon model. However, it can be very useful to be able to expand the functionality a bit. In our test, we discovered what options we have here. A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can adjust it louder or quieter in several steps. Additional programs for specific hearing situations can also be activated this way. If someone prefers to do without the button, they can simply have it deactivated. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to change the hearing aid volume or switch to another hearing program. Nobody notices it, and there’s no need to touch the ear.

We are always excited when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control here. However, there is currently no voice control available in the Viron 3 MNR T. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tap control. You simply tap your fingers on your ear, which in turn triggers a specific function. But this option is not available in this Bernafon device.

It is very convenient to adjust the hearing aids via the app. There is also a free app for the Viron 3 MNR T. In our opinion, the range of functions is mediocre, but mostly sufficient. It’s best to try it out in demo mode beforehand. Headphones are no longer needed, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to the ears—provided that the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security

Now let's take a look at how the usage looks in everyday life. Is the handling simple? Do I get a reliable device? When listening, a situational awareness feature makes life easier for us. In the Viron 3 MNR T, it's not quite as sophisticated. This means that the hearing aid can distinguish between quieter and louder environments and adjusts accordingly. However, the challenging moments, such as loud conversations in a strong background noise, are not compensated as well. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is achieved. This significantly eases the adjustment to the new sound.

The Viron 3 MNR T is not rechargeable. It operates with hearing aid batteries size 312. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: Daily charging of rechargeable batteries is eliminated, and the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on a single battery.

The Viron 3 is nearly dust and water-resistant and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.

Finally, we want to know if the hearing aid perhaps offers any specials: Do you suffer from tinnitus? Then you could use the optional tinnitus program in the Viron 3 MNR T. Soft, gentle sounds are adjusted to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It’s nothing more than a distraction maneuver, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and no longer annoys you. This is a simple but effective tool and earns extra points from us.

We really like the remote adjustment feature. It’s very helpful when you just want to change something small in the hearing aid settings but don’t want to drive to the hearing specialist. Instead, you can contact them via the app, and the hearing professional sends a customized data package back in the same way.

Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Viron 3 MNR T. You should take a closer look at the app for this Bernafon device. It contains some extras that significantly expand the functionality of these hearing aids. We really find these additional functions great!

In the overall view, this device ranks in the rear positions and provides us with hardly more than a solid basic equipment. Of course, you can understand speech with the device, just like with all hearing aids, but not much is done to reduce listening effort. Our overall grade: 4.79.
