We tested a small mini hearing aid from the higher price range this time. It is the Bernafon Viron 7 MNR. It is worn behind the ear and is intended for moderate hearing needs. The discreet arrangement of the speakers in the ear towards the eardrum is due to its design, which is why it also delivers a nice, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
The listening comfort determines whether someone likes to wear their hearing aids or not. Therefore, we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. In this model, which Bernafon presents to us, solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to reduce strenuous background noises. The Viron 7 MNR manages this quite well. In a normal listening environment, it is certainly manageable. The Viron 7 MNR is also prepared for windy outdoor situations. The signal processing can identify wind and reduce it a little.
A pulse sound attenuator for short, explosive noises is sensibly integrated here and is perfectly sufficient for everyday use. Adaptive microphone systems facilitate spatial hearing. However, one has to get used to the new sound a little; especially at the beginning, it is not always clear where a sound is coming from. With 14 frequency bands, a pretty good sound can already be adjusted. A passionate musician may not be entirely satisfied with this, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is completely sufficient.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet used in this hearing aid from Bernafon.

Operation & connectivity
How can we fully leverage the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We have found out what access options are available with the Viron 7 MNR. One very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can increase or decrease the volume in multiple steps. Additional programs for special hearing situations can also be activated with it. If someone wants to do without the button, they can simply have it deactivated. A remote control for the hearing aid is available upon request. This allows the volume to be easily adjusted. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are currently adjusting your hearing aids.
The modern method of operation via voice command is not yet found in the Viron 7 MNR. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, tap control might be conceivable, which would activate a specific function by tapping the ear with your fingers. However, this option is not available in the Viron 7 MNR.
In the AppStore, we also find a suitable application from Bernafon. The app for the Viron 7 MNR is not one of our highlights, but it has everything you need for your hearing systems. The Viron 7 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We think this is great and gladly award points.

Of course, we are also interested in how quickly one can get accustomed to the Viron 7 MNR and how easy daily use is. A reliable automatic program provides the Viron 7 MNR with important points in terms of simplicity. Most listening situations are recognized well, so manual adjustments are rarely necessary. The adaptation to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I don't have to do anything but wear my hearing aids regularly.
The Viron 7 MNR gets its energy from small disposable batteries that need to be changed every few days. While this is not rocket science, it should be considered for those with motor issues. A rechargeable battery would be much easier to handle.
We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and find the protection class IP 68 in the datasheet. This ensures that no dust can penetrate, and water only becomes dangerous after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Bernafon Viron 7 MNR: In acoustically challenging situations that are too loud, the hearing aid user can adjust the hearing aid amplification. If they have a remote control handy or the toggle on the hearing aid is activated, they can reduce the volume or even mute it.
Extras
Sometimes, hearing aids have additional functions that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this Bernafon device: The tinnitus program is definitely worth mentioning. Those plagued by annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, quiet sounds are set up to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus gets lost in the soundscape and isn't bothersome anymore.
The option for remote adjustment is really great. It's very helpful when you want to make just a small change to the hearing aid settings, but don’t want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you contact them through the app, and the hearing professional sends back a customized data package in the same way.
Many hearing aids still come with some health functions today. However, since the Viron 7 MNR does not have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any particular features here. We really liked the additional functions that are integrated into the Viron 7 MNR. Various assistants support your daily life beyond hearing and can be configured in the app. Such hearing aids are hard to give up. By the way: These lifestyle features are often still being worked on, so they may change with updates.
