The Philips HearLink 7010 MNR in review

Die Geräte sind etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Wir haben deshalb einen Abschlag der Gesamtnote vorgenommen. Aktuelle Geräte finden Sie über unseren großen Hörgerätevergleich.

Here we take a look at a hearing aid from the upper price segment that is worn behind the ear. It's called HearLink 7010 MNR and comes from the manufacturer Philips. It can be used by anyone with slight to moderate hearing loss who desires a small hearing aid in a very slim design. By housing the speaker directly in the ear canal, it has very good sound properties.

Hearing comfort

First, we evaluate the hearing comfort features. What types of noises does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied everyday life? Here with this test device, solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. As in all hearing aids, we also find typical background noise suppression here. It is designed to reduce monotonous, noisy ambient sounds to the point where they are less prominent. The HearLink 7010 MNR reliably detects background noise but only reduces it moderately.

The HearLink 7010 MNR is also equipped for windy outdoor situations. The signal processing can identify wind and reduce it slightly. In our test, we also discovered impulse sound control. Short, explosive sounds are dampened with this feature. It works reasonably well here, but we are not in the top class. We always take a close look at the number of equalizer bands. They are important for matching the sound of a hearing aid as closely as possible to the hearing curve. Additionally, speech noise management also occurs within these bands. The HearLink 7010 MNR has 14 of them. That's okay. Spatial hearing needs to be trained a bit with these hearing aids. The movable microphones help, but due to their position on top of the ear shell, the spatial sound is not like that of a normal hearing person. However, after a short acclimatization period, spatial hearing works quite well.

Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but the HearLink 7010 MNR does not yet incorporate this strategy.

Operation & connectivity

Most functions of this Philips model are activated automatically. However, it is sometimes very useful to be able to expand the range of features a bit. In our testing, we found out what options we have here. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the HearLink 7010 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you are talking to is speaking too softly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.

The modern method of operation via voice command is not yet found in the HearLink 7010 MNR. In addition to buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have tap controls. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch. However, we don't have that feature here at Philips, as it would have required very specific sensors.

An app on the smartphone is supposed to facilitate operation, and we found one for the HearLink 7010 MNR as well. In addition to basic functions like volume and programs, we find a few more buttons for personalization. For our digital everyday life, a streaming option would be nice. The present device meets our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz wireless module. With this, you can send phone calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.

Simplicity & security

Another point on our checklist is handling. Does everything work easily and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? In the HearLink 7010 MNR, we experienced an effective situational automation that supports our hearing well. This already ensures that we don’t constantly have to adjust something on the hearing aid. The device supports the adjustment to the new hearing experience with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is fully compensated. I don't have to do anything other than wear my hearing aids regularly.

Philips: Woman's face with closed eyes

Philips HearLink 7010 MNR: Anyone who has an iPhone has a clear advantage with this device. Music and audio files can be transmitted directly and wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. The app for operating the hearing aids is also available for Android users.

Extras

Lastly, we are interested in whether there are a few goodies on top: We would have liked to discover a tinnitus program at this point, but unfortunately, there isn’t one.

A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a precious commodity. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. Anyone needing a new programming for their hearing aids can easily contact the audiologist via the app and describe their hearing wishes. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a custom setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be tested immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.

A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track a few personal health data points. However, the HearLink 7010 MNR does not offer this. Digital algorithms and suitable apps increasingly allow the integration of lifestyle functions that support your everyday life. We are impressed by what hearing aids like this one from Philips can do today. You should definitely give it a try!
