In this model, which Hansaton presents to us, a solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to reduce tiring background sounds. In the AQ Sound FS 1 R, we are not exactly spoiled but can live well with simple noise suppression. Some hearing aids reach their limits when the wind sweeps over the microphones outside. That can get pretty loud. But Hansaton has something to counter that—a highly effective, adjustable wind noise suppression. It works very well and helps all those who enjoy being outdoors.
Once you've had impulse sound suppression in a hearing aid, you don't want to give it up. The AQ Sound FS 1 R has such a feature and can easily handle all short and intense sound events. This includes, for example, the clinking of dishes in the kitchen or footsteps on a hard floor. The hearing aid automatically decides whether the microphones should focus on a speaker or not. You have a decent spatial impression, but accurately determining directions or estimating distances through hearing is not so easy. We always take a close look at the number of equalizer bands. They are important for matching the sound of a hearing aid as precisely as possible to the hearing curve. Additionally, speech noise management also takes place within these bands. The AQ Sound FS 1 R has 12 of them. That's okay.

There is usually a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the AQ Sound FS 1 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. Upon request, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows you to easily adjust the volume. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are currently adjusting your hearing aids.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or softer using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Hansaton has not yet reached this point with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice but is not essential. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap in this Hansaton model, as it would have required specific sensors in the housing.
The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Even though the app is not one of our favorites, it is still a useful addition to the AQ Sound FS 1 R. For our digital everyday life, a streaming option would not be bad. The device at hand fulfills our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz radio module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from the smartphone to the hearing aids.

We are also interested in how quickly one gets along with the AQ Sound FS 1 R and how easy daily use is. We would have wished for an automatic program in the AQ Sound FS 1 R that adjusts itself to the surroundings. However, this is not available, so unfortunately, points are deducted at this point. Some people have difficulty getting used to it, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually leads us to the required target amplification. The period can last from a few weeks to several months, and this is individually adjustable. The individual steps are so small that you hardly notice that there has been a volume increase.
A great relief in everyday life is the integrated battery. This means my AQ Sound FS 1 R always has enough energy for the entire day, and I no longer have to worry about the batteries suddenly running out in the middle of an event. Even with limited dexterity, a battery system is very helpful because it eliminates the need to insert small button cells.
The data sheet certifies the Hansaton device according to IP protection class 68. This makes it one of the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the housing as long as it does not submerge deeper than 1.5 m. However, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, however, you can behave completely carefree.

Finally, let's briefly check if there are any extras: Are you among those suffering from tinnitus? Then you could use the optional tinnitus program in the AQ Sound FS 1 R. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. This is nothing more than a distraction tactic, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and doesn't bother you anymore. It is a simple yet effective tool and receives extra points from us.
The remote adjustment feature is really great. It is very helpful whenever you just want to make a small change to the hearing aid settings but don’t want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you make contact through the app, and the hearing professional sends a tailored data package back in the same way.
Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the AQ Sound FS 1 R. The device from Hansaton focuses on essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation functions. While that could have been fun, it is not necessary for a good hearing experience.
