In this hearing aid, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. The traditional noise reduction suppresses uniform, unimportant sounds to some extent. In the AQ sound XC Pro 9 R, the manufacturer has made an effort and included efficient noise reduction. The AQ sound XC Pro 9 R impresses us with its wind attenuation and performs well in this regard.
Short, loud sounds are quickly recognized and effectively reduced in the AQ sound XC Pro 9 R, thanks to an adjustable impulse sound damper. The hearing aid earns a significant plus point for its excellent 3D hearing. Flexible, highly adaptive directional microphones allow for different directionality characteristics and automatically adjust to the requirements of each situation. We found a proud 20 equalizer bands in the AQ sound XC Pro 9 R. In each band, the hearing aid activates its sound management, filters out the disturbing elements, and retains important speech components. Sound modifications can be targeted and precise. We are very satisfied with this. Especially with sharp or steeply declining hearing curves, such a hearing aid can be very useful.

Operation & connectivity
Most functions of this Hansaton model are activated automatically. However, it is sometimes very useful to be able to extend the functionality a bit more. In our test, we found out what options we have here. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, one can adjust the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. The use is of course optional. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person speaking to you is too quiet again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
In the test, we did not find any option for voice control. This function is not necessarily required, but we would have been pleased to have it. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tapping control. One simply taps the ear with their fingers, which triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this Hansaton device.
It is very convenient to adjust the hearing aids through the app. There is also a free app for the AQ sound XC Pro 9 R. In our opinion, the functionality is mediocre, but mostly sufficient. It’s best to try it out in demo mode beforehand. Problems with phone calls using a smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are transmitted completely wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls and while listening to music during sports. Everything worked smoothly and effortlessly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is required.

With an exceptionally well-functioning situational automation, the AQ sound XC Pro 9 R scores high in terms of everyday performance. The finely tuned detection of the acoustic scenery allows us to effortlessly transition through different listening environments without having to adjust manually. This is exactly what we expect from a hearing aid. Very important in terms of simplicity is the support during the acclimatization process. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. Our test device features an acclimatization manager that helps us through the adjustment phase with very small volume adjustments. After a few weeks or months, we have then reached the calculated amplification level.
The AQ sound XC Pro 9 R is rechargeable and no longer requires batteries. This is not only environmentally friendly, but also very convenient to handle, freeing me from the burden of constantly thinking about battery supplies.
We had a carefree everyday experience in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is especially well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only refers to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bath water or saltwater.

Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find some here: A special tinnitus program can be programmed on request in the AQ sound XC Pro 9 R. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and gladly give extra points.
We find the remote maintenance service quite exciting. If you don't have the opportunity to visit the audiologist, you can instead contact them through the app, briefly describe your hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, you can load it into your hearing aids.
Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Hansaton model lacks the sensors for this service. Other hearing aids already offer a few extended options like a fall alarm or reminder functions. We don't find this here, but that's not quite dramatic, as the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
