We tested a delicate, small hearing aid from the premium price range this time. It is the Hansaton jazz XC Pro 7 10 CIC. It is worn in the ear and is intended for mild to severe hearing loss. The device's position directly in the ear canal is due to its design, which also provides a nice, clear sound.

Hearing comfort

First, we assess the listening comfort features. What types of noises does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied everyday life? Here with this test device, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management. As in all hearing aids, we also find the typical background noise suppression here. It is supposed to reduce monotonous, noisy background sounds so much that they no longer stand out prominently. The manufacturer has made an effort with the jazz XC Pro 7 10 CIC and included efficient noise reduction.

Here, the wind suppression is very solid and satisfies us in everyday life. The suppression of short, loud sound events has convinced us; it is quite powerful. 16 adjustable equalizer bands provide enough flexibility to create a reliable, precise listening experience. Hearing aids like the jazz XC Pro 7 10 CIC maintain the natural sense of space that we have experienced since childhood. The function of the outer ear, head size, head shadow effects - all these parameters create a genuine, original 3D listening experience.

The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet in use here.

Operation & connectivity

The operating options for hearing aids today are as simple or complex as one would like. The basic functions naturally operate fully automatically. We wanted to know how a user can additionally access the jazz XC Pro 7 10 CIC. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the jazz XC Pro 7. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. Unfortunately, this hearing aid cannot be adjusted via a remote control – which means a few points are lost.

We do not find the modern form of operation via voice command in the jazz XC Pro 7 10 CIC. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, tap control could be a possibility, which would trigger a specific function by tapping the fingers to the ear. However, this option is not available in the jazz XC Pro 7 10 CIC.

In the app store, we searched in vain for an app for further adjustments, which we would have preferred differently. If you were looking forward to wireless streaming, we regret to inform you that a wireless module has unfortunately not been integrated here.

Simplicity & security

Usability is the next aspect we want to address. This is about everyday practicality and the question of how easy and safe it is to live with the hearing aid. A well-functioning situational awareness already provides a lot of relaxation in daily hearing. One does not have to constantly adjust the device and can easily rely on the automated adjustments. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new auditory impressions.

Zinc-air batteries power the jazz XC Pro 7 10 CIC. Changing the battery could be quite cumbersome for people with limited dexterity or vision. If you have concerns about this, you might want to look for a rechargeable model.

Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not have any special protection against dust or moisture ingress; at least there is no certification that defines the device's robustness. It may not be particularly suitable for an active daily life.

Everyone enjoys a few extra features, so let's see if we find any here: We noticed the tinnitus option. If desired, a special tinnitus program can be set up. It can, if needed, provide a gentle noise to help distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be customized according to personal hearing preferences.

An online contact with the audiologist through the app would be very useful. This is quite common today and helps with minor adjustment issues. Unfortunately, Hansaton does not offer this, and therefore does not earn any extra points.

Many hearing aids still come with a few health features today. However, since the jazz XC Pro 7 10 CIC does not have any special sensors for that, we cannot present any particularities here. The functionality of the jazz XC Pro 7 10 CIC is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly acceptable. Additional features like fall alarms or Siri connections add some value, but they are not relevant for a good hearing balance.
