The Hansaton sound XC Pro 3 R312 in review
Falls Sie an der neuesten Technik interessiert sind, sollten Sie noch ein wenig weiter stöbern, denn hier handelt es sich um eine etwas ältere Serie. Die Gesamtnote wurde mit einem Abschlag versehen.
Could this hearing aid from the Hansaton company's program be the right one for you? In our review of the sound XC Pro 3 R312, we highlighted the key aspects. We have here a very compact hearing aid from a solid mid-price range that is worn behind the ear. By placing the speaker directly in the ear canal, the foundation for good hearing success is laid, as the sound has only a very short distance to travel to the eardrum. This way, all tones truly reach the place where we want them.
The sound XC Pro 3 R312 provides sufficient amplification for mild, moderate, and even profound hearing losses.
Hearing comfort
What is most bothersome to hearing aid users: Exactly, background noise. That's why we'll first look at what comfort features the test device includes. The sound XC Pro 3 R312 allows for solid comfort programming by the hearing acoustician. Normal noise suppression is definitely present. It is designed to dampen constant sounds like street noise or the hum of the air conditioning. In our test device from Hansaton, the noise suppression is solid. There are hearing aids that have significantly more effective noise reduction, but this one should be sufficient for normal needs.
The suppression of short, loud sound events has convinced us here; it is quite powerful. This device features really good wind management, making outdoor activities enjoyable. We always closely examine the number of equalizer bands. They are important for adjusting the sound of a hearing aid as accurately as possible to the hearing curve. Additionally, the speech noise management also occurs within these bands. The sound XC Pro 3 R312 has 12 of them. That's okay. The hearing aid can self-adjust to focus on the speaker in front, but we do not receive much more support for spatial hearing from the sound XC Pro 3 R312.
An exciting topic in hearing acoustics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this Hansaton model does not apply it yet.

Hansaton sound XC Pro 3 R312:
Operation & connectivity
Everyone has their own unique hearing needs. It is an advantage if you can customize your hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our test, we discovered the following access options: Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the sound XC Pro 3 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button, and it can also be deactivated if desired. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to adjust the hearing aid louder or quieter or switch to another hearing program. No one notices anything, as you don't need to touch your ear.
During the test, we did not find any voice control options. This function is not necessarily required, but we would have appreciated it nonetheless. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With it, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. However, this is not available yet in the sound XC Pro 3 R312.
An app on the smartphone is supposed to make operation easier, and we found one for the sound XC Pro 3 R312 as well. In addition to basic functions like volume and programs, we also find a few additional buttons for personalization. You no longer need headphones, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds from the smartphone directly to the ears—if the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes features like automated functions, robustness, and user-friendliness. We expected a bit more support in everyday hearing with the automatic situation recognition. While the situations "Quiet" and "Noise" are recognized, the sound environment is usually a bit more complex. Some people have difficulty adjusting, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a gradual adaptation manager that helps us step by step to reach the needed target gain. The period can last from a few weeks to several months, and this is individually adjustable. The individual stages are so small that you barely notice there has been an increase in volume.
sound XC Pro 3 R312 is not equipped with a battery, so it is not rechargeable. It is powered by a hearing aid battery size 312, which needs to be replaced every few days.
The sound XC Pro 3 is almost dust and waterproof, and with its IP 68 classification, it is certainly well protected against external influences.
Rating Simplicity & security: 2,5
Extras
Before we reach the end, let's take a look at the extras: Hansaton has integrated a sound generator that plays some soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
The option for remote adjustment is something we really like. It is particularly helpful when you only want to make a small change to the hearing aid settings but don’t want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you can contact them via the app, and the hearing professional sends back a customized data package in the same way.
There are no sensors in this sound XC Pro 3 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have this feature. Other hearing aids do have a few expanded options like a fall alarm or reminder functions. We don’t find that here, and it’s not overly dramatic, as the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
Rating Extras: 2,5
Conclusion: Hansaton sound XC Pro 3 R312
This test device ranks low overall and lacks some features. We give it a rating of 3.68. For casual listeners, this is acceptable, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
