The Oticon Geno 2 ITC in review
This test report is about the Geno 2 ITC. It was developed by Oticon and addresses mild, moderate, and severe hearing needs. This variant is worn in the ear. The Geno 2 ITC is a small hearing aid from the more affordable price range. We achieve clear sound transmission through the direct placement in the ear canal.
Hearing comfort
The comfort features determine how pleasant everyday hearing will be. In this hearing aid, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. A classic noise suppression is supposed to reduce annoying background noises to a tolerable level. The Geno 2 ITC includes only a very slight noise reduction. For active outdoor fans, we always consider wind noise management useful. While this device does have one, it is not very effective. It cannot be individually adjusted either.
Even in cheaper hearing aids, we often find attenuation for impulsive, rattling sounds today. But unfortunately, this clever tool is not included here, which is a pity. We miss good spatial sound, but the automatic focus can indeed be helpful in situations with multiple people. The Geno 2 ITC has only 6 frequency bands, barely meeting the minimum requirements. One should not have overly high expectations regarding sound quality.
Oticon does not yet utilize artificial intelligence in this version.

Oticon Geno 2 ITC:
Operation & connectivity
Every person has their own specific hearing needs. It is advantageous to be able to customize hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our test, we discovered the following access options: There is a button directly on the hearing aid. This allows you to change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. Of course, its use is optional. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. When the person you are talking to speaks too softly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Oticon is not yet at that level with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it is not essential. Tap Control would have also been an interesting function. With it, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But this is not yet available with the Geno 2 ITC.
Oticon offers a suitable app for easier operation. However, it is not particularly richly equipped and hardly goes beyond the basic functions like volume control and hearing programs. A very special comfort feature is the wireless connection in the hearing aid. You need nothing more than a small additional device, and you can stream sounds from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop into the hearing aids. Since mobile devices often only have mediocre speaker quality, this streaming function is a real advantage. The additional device is called a streamer. It is a small, slim gadget that you can wear around your neck or clip to your collar. It contains a powerful battery and a Bluetooth interface.

Simplicity & security
Next up in the test: How does it perform in terms of user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? We don't necessarily experience simple, comfortable hearing with the Geno 2 ITC. In a quieter everyday life, one can manage quite well, but as soon as there is a varied hearing experience, one cannot avoid manual adjustments. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially if one has been hearing poorly for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, it is a tremendous relief. The volume does not have to be increased immediately to full; one can start at a lower level, and gradually and almost unnoticeably, the amplification approaches the target.
The Geno 2 ITC relies on battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: very long battery life. Unlike rechargeable solutions, one rarely has to deal with the power supply. Disadvantage: waste in the form of used batteries is generated. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery size 312.
The Geno 2 is almost dust- and water-resistant and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.
Rating Simplicity & security: 2,8

Oticon Geno 2 ITC:
Extras
Finally, we want to know if the hearing aid might offer any specials: First, we look for a special tinnitus program. Ear noises are a frustrating issue for many people. However, we did not find any option for tinnitus relief in the Geno 2 ITC.
An online contact with the hearing care professional through the app would be very useful. This is already quite common today and helps with small adjustment problems. Unfortunately, Oticon does not offer this and does not earn any extra points for it.
Many hearing aids today still come with a few health functions. However, since the Geno 2 ITC does not have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any particular features here. The device from Oticon focuses on the essential hearing functions and does not offer extras such as voice assistants or translation features. While this would have been fun, it is not necessary for a good hearing experience.
Rating Extras: 4,0
Conclusion: Oticon Geno 2 ITC
This test device ranks in the lower positions and is missing some features. We give it a score of 3.75. For less demanding listeners, this is acceptable, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
