To create a hearing aid test report, we take a close look at the hearing aids and, if possible, wear them ourselves for a while. This time it was the Jet PX 1 miniRITE R by Oticon, a device from the budget segment that can compensate for mild, moderate, and stronger hearing needs. The Jet PX 1 miniRITE R is a discreet hearing aid that sits behind the ear. With the speaker positioned directly in the ear canal, it already meets the basic requirements for decent sound quality.
Hearing comfort
Right from the start, we are dealing with the topic of hearing comfort. By this, we mean all the features that ensure a thoroughly pleasant, rich, and interference-free sound. In the Jet PX 1 miniRITE R, we found very few options for influencing comfort.
The classic noise suppression is, of course, also present here. Its job is to detect simple noises from the environment and to somewhat cushion them. In this Oticon model, a stronger noise reduction would be desirable, but that is reserved for higher-quality hearing aids. Short, loud sounds can also be recognized by this device. However, the attenuation is very minimal. Those who frequently experience such abrupt noises in their surroundings should consider choosing a different model.
Although the Jet PX 1 miniRITE R has wind reduction, it really doesn't help much outdoors. The hearing aid can align itself independently with the speaker across from it, but we do not get much more support for spatial hearing from the Jet PX 1 miniRITE R. We always take a close look at the number of equalizer bands. They are important for adjusting the sound of a hearing aid as accurately as possible to the hearing curve. Additionally, speech noise management also takes place within these bands. The Jet PX 1 miniRITE R has 14 of them. That is acceptable. Other hearing aids are already using artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is not yet present in the Jet PX 1 miniRITE R.

Operation & connectivity
Digital hearing aids have long evolved beyond the basic amplification function. Apps and other control options significantly expand the range of features, which is why we are looking at this important topic with the Jet PX 1 miniRITE R from Oticon. A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, allowing you to increase or decrease the volume in several steps. Additional programs for specific hearing situations can also be activated this way. If someone prefers to do without the button, they can simply have it deactivated. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you are talking to speaks too softly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
We are always pleased when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For instance, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. However, that is currently not available in the Jet PX 1 miniRITE R. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tap control. By simply tapping your fingers on your ear, a specific function is triggered. However, this option is not available in this Oticon device.
The manual control includes an app. This allows for discreet access to the hearing aid. In addition to volume control, you can also adjust hearing programs and a few other functions. You no longer need headphones, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds from the smartphone directly into your ears—provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

We do not necessarily experience simple, comfortable hearing with the Jet PX 1 miniRITE R. One can manage quite well in a quieter everyday life, but as soon as one has a varied hearing routine, manual adjustments become unavoidable. We give a significant plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This greatly facilitates the adjustment to the new sound.
The Jet PX 1 miniRITE R is rechargeable and no longer requires hearing aid batteries. This is environmentally friendly, as there are no old batteries to dispose of. At the same time, it is also extremely convenient, as no spare batteries need to be carried. The hearing aids simply go into the charging station in the evening and are ready for use the next morning.
The data sheet certifies the Oticon device with an IP protection class of 68. This makes it one of the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust doesn't stand a chance, and water cannot penetrate the housing unless it submerges deeper than 1.5 meters. However, do be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, however, you can behave completely carefree.

At the end of our test report, there is still a bit of space for extra features: Oticon has integrated a sound generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation. A very good added benefit comes from the offering of remote service. Through the app, one can contact their audiologist and describe their hearing problem. The audiologist can then adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. For people with limited time or a long commute, this is a great service. Health-conscious individuals will find a small special feature in the Jet PX 1 miniRITE R: health tracking. For example, steps can be counted throughout the day, and feedback on one's physical activity is provided. Sensors in the hearing aid track the individual data, which can then be read in the app. The functionality of the Jet PX 1 miniRITE R is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional features like fall alerts or Siri integrations add considerable value but are not relevant for good hearing balance.
