Could this hearing aid from the Oticon program be the right choice for you? In our review of the Jet PX 2 CIC, we have highlighted the most important aspects. We have a small, barely visible hearing aid from the affordable segment that is worn in the ear. The discreet placement in the ear canal lays the foundation for good hearing success, as the sound has a very short distance to the eardrum. This ensures that all sounds reach us where we want them.

The Jet PX 2 CIC provides sufficient amplification for mild to severe hearing losses.

Hearing comfort

In our test, we typically start by analyzing the comfort features. A comfortable sound is characterized by a mix of speech and background noise that is realistic and as pleasant as possible. Various electronic tools take care of all the sounds. With the Jet PX 2 CIC, we found few options for influencing comfort. One of the noise tools is noise suppression, which is supposed to dampen sounds like traffic noise, refrigerator hum, or the PC fan. The manufacturer has integrated a simple noise reduction here, but it cannot be adjusted further.

A so-called impact filter would have been nice; it would have made the clattering when emptying the dishwasher a bit more bearable. However, we have to forgo that with the Jet PX 2 CIC. We found a basic wind detection feature, but unfortunately, nothing is adjustable there. When it comes to spatial hearing, the Jet PX 2 CIC truly showcases its strength: due to the deep fit just before the eardrum, the sound capture occurs similarly to a natural ear without a hearing aid. The auricle naturally directs the sound into the ear canal, and the existing head shadow effects are also utilized. Such good 3D hearing could probably not be artificially produced. With 12 frequency bands, a quite good sound can be adjusted. A passionate musician might not be entirely satisfied with this, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is completely sufficient.

The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence has not yet come into play here.

Operation & connectivity

Occasionally, one finds themselves in situations where it would be beneficial if the hearing aid were set differently. After all, we live in hectic times where the acoustic environment often changes. Most hearing aids have specific options for influencing the settings themselves. Here's how it looks with the Jet PX 2 CIC: A very quick way to adjust the volume is through the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can increase or decrease the volume in several steps. Additional programs for specific listening situations can also be activated with it. If someone wants to forgo the button, they can simply have it deactivated. We would have liked a remote control, but Oticon does not offer one for this model. So there’s no point for this at this time.

Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Oticon unfortunately cannot yet. It would be practical when fingers are not as nimble or if someone simply likes smart gadgets. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger, without needing to press an extra button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.

We missed an app for the Jet PX 2 CIC during the test. If controlling via smartphone is important to you, you should look for a different model. There is no option for connecting to other audio sources here. It’s a pity, as a wireless streaming function would have provided real added value.

Simplicity & security

For the next chapter, we subjected the hearing aid to a small practical test. We wanted to know if it is easy to use in everyday life and uncomplicated. Automatic environmental adaptation would certainly be helpful in daily life, but unfortunately, it is not provided in the Jet PX 2 CIC. Therefore, we have to rely on the manual adjustment options. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions.

The Jet PX 2 CIC is not rechargeable; it is powered by hearing aid batteries. Unlike a rechargeable battery, it does not need to be charged daily; however, after a few days, the size 10 battery should be replaced.

The data sheet certifies the Oticon device with an IP protection class 68 certification. This makes it one of the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the housing unless submerged deeper than 1.5 m. However, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, however, you can behave completely carefree.

Extras

The final touches belong to the extras, small additional features that could earn the hearing aid some extra points: The tinnitus program is definitely worth mentioning. Those plagued by annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, soft sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is hardly disturbing anymore.

In mobile times like these, a remote maintenance service via an app would be very helpful. This would allow you to conveniently create a new hearing aid programming from home. Unfortunately, this service is not available for the Jet PX 2 CIC. For any changes, you still have to visit the specialized store.

Many hearing aids today still come with a few health functions. However, since the Jet PX 2 CIC does not have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any particular features here. The device from Oticon focuses on essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation functions. While that might have been fun, it is not necessary for a good listening experience.

This test device ranks in the lower positions overall and is missing some features. We give it a rating of 3.65. For less demanding listeners, this is acceptable; however, for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
