To create a hearing aid test report, we closely examine the hearing aids and, if possible, wear them ourselves for a while. This time it was the Jet PX 2 miniRITE R from Oticon, a device at a moderate price that can compensate for mild to profound hearing loss. The Jet PX 2 miniRITE R is a nice, discreet hearing aid that sits behind the ear. By discreetly and intelligently placing the speaker in the ear canal, it has already met the basic requirements for reasonable sound quality.
Hearing comfort
In our test, we typically start with the analysis of comfort features. A comfortable sound is characterized by the mix of speech and background noise being realistic and as pleasant as possible. Various electronic tools take care of all the sounds. In the Jet PX 2 miniRITE R, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. One of the noise tools is noise suppression, which is supposed to dampen things like traffic noise, refrigerator hum, or PC fan noise. Here, only a very slight noise reduction is included.
Points are deducted for the lack of impulse noise suppression. Normally, this dampens short, rattling noises. But those who choose this hearing aid shouldn’t let that bother them. We found a basic wind detection, but unfortunately, nothing is adjustable. We miss natural spatial hearing with this device, and that does create some difficulties in everyday life. We can no longer reliably detect directions. Additionally, those with limited vision should opt for a different hearing aid. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but the existing 12 channels are already quite workable.
An exciting topic in hearing acoustics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet applied in this Oticon model.

Operation & connectivity
Sometimes it is not so bad when you can adjust the volume of the hearing aid a little, for example, when the neighbor is loudly mowing the lawn or someone is speaking very quietly with you. Many models therefore have special operating functions. You can use them, but you don't have to. We took a look at this with the Jet PX 2 miniRITE R: A very quick way to correct the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can adjust it to be louder or quieter in several steps. Additional programs for special hearing situations can also be activated this way. If you want to do without the button, you can simply have it deactivated. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you are talking to is once again speaking too quietly, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Oticon is not quite there with this device yet. Don't worry, this feature would be nice but is not essential. In addition to buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have a tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch over. However, we do not have that here at Oticon; it would have required very specific sensors.
The manual operation includes an app. With it, you can discreetly access the hearing aid. In addition to volume control, you can also set hearing programs and a few other functions. The Jet PX 2 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normally hearing people. We think that’s great and are happy to award points.

Here are our findings: Automatic environmental adaptation would certainly be helpful in daily life, but unfortunately, it is not provided in the Jet PX 2 miniRITE R. Therefore, we have to rely on manual adjustment options. Very important in terms of simplicity is the support during the adjustment period. Especially after hearing poorly for years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. Our test device includes an acclimatization manager that helps us through the adjustment phase with very small volume adjustments. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
The Jet PX 2 miniRITE R comes with a charger, as it has built-in batteries. This is modern, user-friendly, and what we expect from a contemporary hearing aid.
The data sheet certifies the Oticon device with an IP protection class rating of 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust stands no chance, and water cannot penetrate the casing as long as it does not submerge deeper than 1.5 meters. However, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of the water. You should also avoid seawater. In everyday life, though, you can behave quite carefree.

We complete the test by checking if there are a few extras for you: A special tinnitus program can be programmed in the Jet PX 2 miniRITE R upon request. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and gladly award extra points.
A very good added benefit comes from the remote maintenance offer. Through the app, you can contact your hearing care professional and describe your hearing problem. They can then adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. This is a great service for people with little time or a long commute.
Do you sometimes use your smartphone to track your daily steps? This is now not only easier but also more accurate. The Jet PX 2 miniRITE R from Oticon has integrated sensors that allow for precise tracking. It can also record other health data - in our eyes, this is a real added value. This Oticon hearing aid does not have any further lifestyle options onboard. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
