The Philips HearLink 7030 ITC in review
We tested a small hearing aid from the upper price segment this time. It is the Philips HearLink 7030 ITC. It is worn in the ear and is intended for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing losses. The device owes its direct placement in the ear canal to its design, which is why it also delivers a nice, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience becomes. In this hearing aid, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. Traditional noise suppression ensures that uniform, unimportant sounds are slightly reduced. In the HearLink 7030 ITC, we find really strong noise suppression that makes listening extremely enjoyable. There is also wind management, which we find very good since many people enjoy being outdoors. The reduction of wind noise occurs at a moderate level.
Impulse sounds occur very often in everyday life. There's the dishwasher that needs to be emptied, or the keychain that is placed on the table. The HearLink 7030 ITC features strong impulse sound management that makes these sounds bearable. The spatial hearing has convinced us in daily life. While it’s not true 3D hearing, you quickly forget about that when wearing the hearing aids. With 20 channels, the frequency band count in the HearLink 7030 ITC is very high. This allows the hearing aid to be perfectly adjusted to each individual’s hearing and also offers good long-term tuning options.
Understanding speech in a noisy environment is always a challenge. Philips addresses this issue with the use of artificial intelligence. The result is brilliant and clear speech transmission while the background noises remain realistically loud to the ear.

Operation & connectivity
How can you fully exploit the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We have found out what access options are available with the HearLink 7030 ITC. For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special hearing situations through it. If desired, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This makes it effortless to adjust the volume. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are currently adjusting your hearing aids.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Philips unfortunately cannot yet. It would be practical if your fingers are not as agile anymore or if you simply like smart gadgets. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of a finger without needing to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.
The best way to adjust the HearLink 7030 ITC is with the associated app. The first apps back then only had a single screen, but this one offers far more than just the usual volume up and down function. Clearly, we have points here. You don’t need headphones anymore, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to your ears - provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security
How does one cope with hearing aids in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will evaluate. Because only when such a device works simply and straightforwardly can one become familiar with it. A well-functioning situational recognition already creates a lot of relaxation in the hearing experience. One does not have to constantly switch the device and can easily give in to the automated adjustments. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has been hearing poorly for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is a huge relief. The volume does not have to be immediately turned up to full. One can start at a lower level and gradually and almost unnoticed, the amplification approaches the target.
The HearLink 7030 ITC is not rechargeable; it is powered by hearing aid batteries. Unlike rechargeable batteries, it does not need to be charged daily, but the size 312 battery is changed after a few days.
We had a carefree everyday experience during our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We walked through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - everything was no problem. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bathwater or seawater.

Extras
Finally, we want to know if the hearing aid offers any specials: first, we look for a specific tinnitus program. Ear noises are a vexing issue for many people. However, we did not find any option for tinnitus relief in the HearLink 7030 ITC.
We really like the remote fitting option. This is very helpful when you only want to change a small detail in the hearing aid settings but do not want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you contact them through the app, and the hearing professional sends back a customized data package in the same way.
If Philips had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, it could even allow for individual health tracking. However, this is not the case here. These points detract from the HearLink 7030 ITC in the overall evaluation. Then there are a few lifestyle features that make your hearing aid a smart assistant. Connect with voice assistants like Siri, or discover what else the app offers. Although this has little to do with actual hearing, it can be extremely useful.
