The Oticon Own 2 CIC in review
We tested a fine little hearing aid this time at a rather premium price. It is the Oticon Own 2 CIC. It is worn in the ear and is designed for mild, moderate, and severe hearing needs. The device's direct placement in the ear canal is due to its design, which also provides a nice, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
Hearing aids are not only supposed to bring speech to the ear but also sound pleasant. So, let's first look at the comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? Are they dampened or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for a lively everyday life? Here, with this test device, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management. As in every hearing aid, typical noise cancellation is also included here. It is meant to reduce uniform, rumbling background noises to the point that they no longer dominate so much. For the Own 2 CIC, the manufacturer has made an effort and included efficient noise reduction.
For windy situations outdoors, Oticon has provided wind noise suppression. This is quite useful and is simply part of a modern comfort feature. The blast filter in this hearing aid is quite solid and practical for everyday use. We found a proud 20 equalizer bands in the Own 2 CIC. In each band, the hearing aid activates its noise management, filters out the disturbing elements, and retains important speech components. Acoustic changes can be targeted and precise. This leaves us very satisfied. Especially with sharp or steeply declining hearing curves, such a hearing aid can be very useful. Spatial hearing works very reliably. Directional hearing is supported, and the spatial impression is good.
One component in the signal processing of the Own 2 CIC is artificial intelligence. The impact is positive, as many customers find conversations in noisy situations significantly more relaxed.

Oticon Own 2 CIC:
Operation & connectivity
Digital hearing aids have long evolved beyond just the normal amplification function. Apps and other control options significantly expand the range of functions, which is why we also look at this important topic with the Own 2 CIC from Oticon. One very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can adjust the volume in several steps to make it louder or quieter. Additional programs for specific hearing situations can also be activated. If you prefer to do without the button, you can simply have it deactivated. We did not find a remote control. It's a pity because we actually find this discreet control option quite nice.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Oticon is not there yet with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it is dispensable. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of a finger, without having to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.
If you are looking for an app, unfortunately, you won't find one here. The Own 2 CIC has to make do without smart control functions. This point is lost. If you were looking forward to wireless streaming, we regret to inform you that a wireless module was unfortunately not integrated here.

Simplicity & security
Another point on our checklist is handling. Does everything work easily and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? We categorize the situation recognition integrated into the Own 2 CIC as rather average. The most important loud and quiet situations are recognized and adapted. However, for acoustically more complex moments, this is not entirely sufficient, and one cannot avoid additional manual adjustment options. Very important to us in terms of simplicity is the support during the acclimatization process. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. Our test device features an acclimatization manager that helps us through the adjustment phase with very small volume adjustments. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
Many hearing aids today have a rechargeable battery, but the Own 2 CIC still operates with disposable batteries. This is somewhat cumbersome to handle and also has an environmental impact.
The hearing aid has been classified in protection class IP 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water cannot easily damage the hearing aid either. It is well-equipped for outdoor activities, where it can sometimes get wet and dirty. However, you should still avoid swimming or bathing with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater change the composition and can ultimately cause damage.

Extras
Sometimes there are additional features in hearing aids that can be quite useful. Let’s see how this Oticon device performs: Here we noticed the tinnitus option. If desired, one can have a special tinnitus program set up. This gently plays a soft noise in the ears to distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be customized according to personal hearing preferences.
Unfortunately, there is no option for remote adjustment. So, anyone needing optimization and wanting to change their hearing aid settings will have to visit a hearing professional.
Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Own 2 CIC. We really liked the additional functions available in the Own 2 CIC. Various assistants support your daily life beyond hearing and can be configured in the app. You don’t want to give up such hearing aids anymore. By the way: These lifestyle features are often still being developed, so it’s possible that they may change depending on updates.
