The Real 1 mini Ex T from Oticon is a hearing aid of very small size that is worn behind the ear. By utilizing the direct alignment of the speaker in the ear canal, very good sound transmission is possible. Real 1 mini Ex T is a hearing aid of excellent quality and is suitable for nearly every hearing requirement.
Hearing comfort
What is most annoying for hearing aid users: Exactly, background noise. That’s why we first take a look at the comfort features of the test device. With the Real 1 mini Ex T, we were impressed by the excellent noise management. A normal noise suppression is definitely present. It is designed to reduce constant noises such as street noise or the hum of an air conditioner. In our test device from Oticon, we find a really strong noise suppression that makes listening extremely pleasant.
Once you have experienced impulse sound suppression in a hearing aid, you don't want to give it up. The Real 1 mini Ex T has such a feature and can handle all short and intense sound events effortlessly. This includes, for example, the clattering of dishes in the kitchen or footsteps on a hard floor. This device has very good wind management, making outdoor activities enjoyable. We found an impressive 24 equalizer bands in the Real 1 mini Ex T. In each band, the hearing aid activates its noise management, filtering out disturbing elements and retaining important speech components. Sound adjustments can be targeted and precise. We are very satisfied with that. Particularly in cases of jagged or steeply declining hearing curves, such a hearing aid can be very helpful. The hearing aid earns a big plus point for its outstanding 3D hearing. Flexible, highly adaptive directional microphones allow for various directional characteristics and automatically adjust to the needs of the respective situation.
Artificial intelligence is also utilized in the signal processing of the Real 1 mini Ex T. This leads to a much more realistic analysis of the hearing environment, and above all, clarity in noisy surroundings is significantly improved.

Operation & connectivity
Almost everyone of us owns a smartphone, which raises the question of whether it can be connected to the new hearing aid. Let’s take a look at how the connectivity and usability stand with the Real 1 mini Ex T. The simplest way to operate it is a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has that too. It can be programmed according to your preferences. Do you want manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for gradual adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who prefers to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. A very practical option is the small remote control, which is available optionally. For us, it is one of the most comfortable ways to increase or decrease the volume of the hearing aid or switch to another hearing program. No one notices anything; reaching for the ear is not necessary.
For some time now, there has been a trend of adjusting hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Oticon is not yet on that level with this device. Don’t worry, this feature would be nice, but it's not essential. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is tap control. You simply tap your fingers on your ear, which triggers a specific function. However, this feature is not available in this Oticon device.
The best way to adjust the Real 1 mini Ex T is with the accompanying app. The earlier apps barely had one screen, but this one offers much more than just the usual volume up and down function. Here, we clearly see advantages. Problems with phone calls using a smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are transmitted completely wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls as well as while listening to music during sports. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a suitable smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is needed.

With its top-notch situational recognition, we were completely convinced by the Real 1 mini Ex T. The hearing aid seamlessly adapts to the acoustic environment and almost never requires our intervention. Hearing feels completely normal. Some people struggle with adaptation, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a comfort manager that gradually introduces us to the required target amplification. The duration can range from a few weeks to several months, which can be individually set. The individual steps are so small that you don’t even notice there has been a volume increase.
The Real 1 mini Ex T is not equipped with a battery, so it is not rechargeable. It is powered by a hearing aid battery size 312. It needs to be replaced every few days.
We also take a look at the robustness of the casing and find the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and even water only becomes dangerous after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Das Tinnitusprogramm im Real 1 mini Ex T ist eigentlich nichts weiter als ein Klanggenerator. Es geht darum, breitbandige Geräusche oder Klänge zu erzeugen, die sanft und angenehm alle Hörbereiche stimulieren. Der Tinnitus geht darin unter und wird nicht mehr als störend wahrgenommen.
