The Oticon Xceed UP 2 HDO 675 in review
Once again, we are looking at a conventional hearing aid for moderate, severe, and changing hearing losses: This model is called Xceed UP 2 HDO 675 and comes from the company Oticon. It is worn behind the ear, and it is a suitably sized hearing aid. The Xceed UP 2 HDO 675 is a model from the upper price segment. Let's see if the pricing is justified.
Hearing comfort
Good speech understanding is a given in modern hearing aids. Equally important is hearing comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right will listening be perceived as pleasant. Therefore, let's take a look at the comfort features: In the Xceed UP 2 HDO 675, we found very few options for comfort enhancement. Normal background noises like street noise, the sound of a vacuum cleaner, or that from a fan should be dampened by classic noise suppression. In this Oticon hearing aid, a stronger noise reduction would be desirable, but that is reserved for higher-quality hearing aids.
When clattering or rattling noises occur, the Oticon device activates its impulse sound suppressor. Nevertheless, these noises remain quite intense. This hearing aid can detect wind noises, but the reduction is barely noticeable. The device recognizes whether the microphones should transmit everything or be directed forward. This can help in conversational situations but does not replace true spatial hearing. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but the existing 12 channels are already quite usable.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from Oticon.

Oticon Xceed UP 2 HDO 675:
Operation & connectivity
Digital hearing aids have long evolved beyond basic amplification functions. Apps and other control options significantly expand the functionality, which is why we also look at this important topic with the Xceed UP 2 HDO 675 from Oticon. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. This can be used to adjust the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. The use is of course optional. Those who prefer not to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for comfortable and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
Voice commands are a relatively new way of operating hearing aids. However, this model does not yet have this capability. That’s not a big deal – the main thing is being able to hear well. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple fingertip in this Oticon model because it would have required specific sensors in the housing.
An app on the smartphone is supposed to make operation easier, and we have found one for the Xceed UP 2 HDO 675 as well. In addition to basic functions like volume and programs, we also find a few additional buttons for personalization. The Xceed UP 2 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna, allowing us to enjoy bilateral phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We think that’s great and happily give points for it.

Simplicity & security
Let's continue with the test: How is the usability? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? The Xceed UP 2 HDO 675 can independently differentiate between quiet and loud environments, but there is not much more in the program automation. One can hardly do without manual adjustment options here. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing experiences.
Unfortunately, the Xceed UP 2 HDO 675 is not equipped with a battery, so regular size 675 batteries are required for operation.
We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and find the protection class IP 68 in the datasheet. This prevents dust from entering at all, and water only becomes hazardous after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.
Rating Simplicity & security: 2,5

Oticon Xceed UP 2 HDO 675:
Extras
Lastly, we are interested in whether there are any additional goodies on top: We noticed the tinnitus option here. If desired, one can have a special tinnitus program set up. This gently plays soothing sounds to distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be tailored to personal hearing preferences.
We really like the option for remote tuning. This is very helpful whenever someone wants to change just a small detail in the hearing aid settings but doesn’t want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, contact is made through the app, and the hearing professional sends a customized data package back via the same method.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track some personal health data, but the Xceed UP 2 HDO 675 does not offer this. Digital algorithms and matching apps increasingly allow for the integration of lifestyle functions that support your daily life. We are impressed by what hearing aids like this one from Oticon can do today. Be sure to try it out!
