Oticon presents the Zircon 2 mini RITE T, a model from the lower mid-range. It can accommodate almost any hearing need. It is a small, barely visible hearing aid that delivers good sound through the deep placement of the speaker in the ear canal. It is worn behind the ear.
Hearing comfort
Hearing comfort determines whether someone enjoys wearing their hearing aids or not. That's why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. In this model that Oticon presents to us, we find only the absolute essentials when it comes to hearing comfort. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to reduce demanding background noises. The Zircon 2 mini RITE T has only a very slight noise reduction. We found a basic wind noise detection, but unfortunately, there is nothing adjustable.
A filter for rattling, popping noises is not available here – unfortunately, that's a point against it. There is no support for spatial hearing, which means the Zircon 2 mini RITE T cannot convince in that regard. While the Zircon 2 mini RITE T doesn’t have many adjustable equalizer bands, the 12 should be sufficient for a good listening experience.
The signal processing of the Zircon 2 mini RITE T also employs artificial intelligence. This allows for a much more realistic analysis of the hearing environment, and especially the clarity in noisy environments is significantly improved.

Operation & connectivity
Every person has their own unique hearing needs. It is advantageous if one can customize their hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our tests, we discovered the following access options: The simplest way to operate is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This model has one as well. It can be programmed according to your preferences. Do you desire a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a stepwise adjustment of the volume. Or do you need various special programs for your professional daily life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you want to keep everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. We do appreciate the small remote controls, and for this model, we have found one. This allows discreet adjustments to the volume or sound.
Voice commands are quite a new way to operate hearing aids. However, we do not have this feature in this model yet. That’s not a big deal – the main thing is that you can hear well. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap without needing to press a button. However, this feature is not yet implemented here.
A manual operation includes an app. This allows for discreet access to the hearing aid. In addition to volume control, you can also adjust hearing programs and a few other functions. The Zircon 2 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and provides us with the enjoyment of bilateral phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normally hearing individuals. We think that’s great and happily give points.

Simplicity & security
An important factor in the acceptance of a hearing aid is its usability in everyday life. This includes automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. When it comes to adapting to changing hearing situations, we have to limit ourselves to manual options with the Zircon 2 mini RITE T. An automatic situation detection would have definitely made life easier, but it is not present here. Some people find it difficult to adjust, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually guides us to the required target amplification. The duration can vary from a few weeks to several months, and it is individually adjustable. The individual steps are so small that one does not even notice that there has been a volume increase.
The Zircon 2 mini RITE T is not rechargeable. It operates with hearing aid batteries of size 312. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: The daily recharging of batteries is eliminated, and the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on a single battery.
The Zircon 2 is nearly dustproof and waterproof, and with its IP 68 classification, it is certainly well protected against external influences.

At the end of our test report, there is still a bit of space for the extra features: We were particularly impressed with the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently troubled by a ringing or hissing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Zircon 2 mini RITE T is basically just a sound generator. It is about producing broadband noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all hearing areas. The tinnitus gets drowned out and is no longer perceived as disturbing.
You get a very good added benefit from the remote maintenance service. Through the app, you can contact your hearing care professional and describe your hearing problem. They can adjust the settings accordingly and load them into the hearing aids via the app. For people with little time or a long commute, this is a great service.
If Oticon had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, individualized health tracking could even be possible. However, that is not the case here. These points lead to the Zircon 2 mini RITE T losing some value. Then there are a few lifestyle functions that turn your hearing aid into a smart assistant. Connect with voice assistants like Siri, or discover what else is available in the app. While this doesn't relate much to actual hearing, it can be extremely useful.
