What hearing comfort does the HearLink 2010 MNR provide? How is it operated? Is it worth the purchase? Answers to these questions can be found in our review of this hearing aid from Philips. First, the basics: It is worn behind the ear, and the direct positioning of the speaker in the ear canal allows sound to travel effortlessly towards the eardrum. This is important because only in this way can a really good, wideband sound be produced.
The HearLink 2010 MNR is a very small hearing aid from the lower price segment that can cover mild to moderate hearing loss. Read more details:
Hearing comfort
Firstly, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience becomes. In this hearing aid, we find only the bare essentials regarding hearing comfort. The traditional noise cancellation ensures that uniform, unimportant sounds are slightly reduced. The HearLink 2010 MNR includes only a very slight noise reduction. The device from Philips can also detect wind noise, but only a very minimal noise reduction follows. This is sufficient for normal everyday paths, but true outdoor enthusiasts will not be satisfied with it.
Unfortunately, a pulse sound suppressor is not included in the HearLink 2010 MNR. The microphones in the HearLink 2010 MNR can be directed forward in the line of sight. However, that is the only feature that slightly supports spatial hearing. An important point in our tests is the number of frequency bands. It plays a role when it comes to the precise programming of the hearing aids. This number is also important for distinguishing between speech and sounds. Here we have 8 bands. There could have certainly been a few more, as this unfortunately does not allow for very fine adjustments. However, those who do not place much importance on a brilliant sound experience might get along quite well with the HearLink 2010 MNR.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet utilized in this hearing aid from Philips.

Philips HearLink 2010 MNR:
Operation & connectivity
The majority of functions are activated automatically by this Philips model. However, it can be very useful to have the option to expand the functionality a bit. In the test, we found out what options we have here. For those who want to quickly and easily increase or decrease the volume, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special hearing situations through it. Those who are not keen on touching their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for comfortable and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
In the test, we did not find any option for voice control. This function is not strictly necessary, but we would have appreciated it nonetheless. Besides buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have a tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device switches modes. However, we do not have this feature here at Philips; it would have required specific sensors.
As is common today, we also find a smartphone app for the HearLink 2010 MNR. This app includes solid basic functions and adds a few goodies on top. Issues with making phone calls using a smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are completely wirelessly transmitted to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls and while listening to music during sports. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is required.

Simplicity & security
We are also interested in how quickly one adapts to the HearLink 2010 MNR and how easy daily usage is. We do not necessarily experience simple, comfortable listening with the HearLink 2010 MNR. In a quieter daily life, one can manage quite well, but as soon as you have a varied listening environment, manual adjustments become unavoidable. Very important for us in terms of simplicity is the support during the acclimatization process. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. Our test device features an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the adaptation phase. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
The HearLink 2010 MNR gets its energy from small disposable batteries that need to be changed every few days. While this is not rocket science, it should be considered, especially in case of motor issues. A rechargeable battery would be much easier to handle.
We had a carefree daily life during our test thanks to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is especially well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and subsequently removed the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, clean water and not to foamy bath water or seawater.

Philips HearLink 2010 MNR:
Extras
In the end, let's take a quick look at whether there are any extras: A tinnitus program would be an additional bonus. Many people suffering from ear noises could benefit from it. Unfortunately, the HearLink 2010 MNR does not have a tinnitus option and loses a few points in the test.
Philips is keeping up with the times and offers a forward-looking feature with the remote adjustment service. Working individuals with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer journey to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can, for example, track some personal health data. However, the HearLink 2010 MNR does not offer this. In conjunction with a smartphone, the HearLink 2010 MNR surprises us with some nice lifestyle features. It's definitely worthwhile to familiarize yourself thoroughly with the app and make use of the available assistance programs.

Conclusion: Philips HearLink 2010 MNR
This test device finishes in the lower ranks overall and lacks some features. We give it a rating of 4.08. For less demanding listeners, this is acceptable; however, for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
