We tested a small mini hearing aid at a lower price point this time. It is the Philips HearLink 2010 MNR T. It is worn behind the ear and is designed for mild, moderate, and severe hearing needs. The placement of the speaker directly in the ear canal is due to its design, which is why it also delivers a nice, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
First, we assess the hearing comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied daily life? Here with this test device, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. As in all hearing aids, we also find the typical noise suppression here. It aims to reduce monotonous, noisy background sounds to the point where they are no longer in the foreground. The HearLink 2010 MNR T has only minimal basic suppression. The hearing aid user should already have a certain tolerance for noise here.
This hearing aid can detect wind noise, but the suppression is hardly noticeable. Even in cheaper hearing aids, we often find attenuation for impulsive, clattering noises today. However, this clever tool is unfortunately not included here, which is quite a shame. With 8 frequency bands, we are not entirely satisfied with the MNR T, but it should suffice for uncomplicated hearing curves. The sound probably won’t be very natural with this. We miss natural spatial hearing with this device, which can lead to some difficulties in everyday life. We can no longer reliably identify directions. Those with limited vision should better opt for a different hearing aid.
Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but the HearLink 2010 MNR T does not yet incorporate this strategy.

Operation & connectivity
Most hearing aids automatically adapt to their environment. However, it is sometimes very practical to be able to make adjustments yourself. After all, the hearing aid doesn't know how you currently feel. We took a look at the operating options that the HearLink 2010 MNR T offers: For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume up or down, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special listening situations. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to increase or decrease the volume of the hearing aid or switch to another hearing program. No one notices it; there's no need to reach for the ear.
Voice commands are a fairly new way to operate hearing aids. However, we do not yet have this option in this model. That's not a big deal - the main thing is that you can hear well. Some hearing aids can be controlled with a quick tap of the finger without needing to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.
In the App Store, we also find a suitable application from Philips. The app for the HearLink 2010 MNR T is not one of our highlights, but it has everything you need for your hearing systems. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headphone and receives phone calls and other sounds directly in your ear. The requirement is a compatible smartphone that includes 2.4 GHz technology. The biggest advantage is that you can hear phone calls not just in one ear, but in both. Additionally, the sound can be adjusted to personal preferences.

Simplicity & security
Let's continue with the test: How is the user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? The automatic situation recognition is supposed to make listening easier. However, the HearLink 2010 MNR T does not handle changing or difficult acoustic environments very well, as it lacks some adaptive algorithms. Additionally, it is advisable to have a few extra hearing programs set up for this device. The adjustment to the new hearing experience is supported by a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I just need to wear my hearing aids regularly.
The HearLink 2010 MNR T obtains its power from small disposable batteries that need to be changed every few days. While this is not rocket science, it should be considered, especially in cases of motor issues. A rechargeable battery would be much easier to handle.
With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand a number of adverse effects. Dust cannot penetrate, it withstands prolonged submersion in water, and it is also protected against touches.

Philips HearLink 2010 MNR T:
Extras
Sometimes there are additional features in hearing aids that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this Philips device: For example, a tinnitus option would be interesting. Unfortunately, we have not discovered any way to alleviate tinnitus in the HearLink 2010 MNR T.
A real added value is provided by the remote maintenance service. You no longer have to go to the specialty store to change the hearing aid settings; instead, you can directly contact the audiologist through the app. Through a cloud service, you can then load the new data package into the hearing aids. This is exactly the kind of thing we expect from a modern hearing aid.
There are no sensors in this HearLink 2010 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this feature on board. With devices like this one from Philips, our test reports are getting longer, as there are now also intelligent additional functions. Various assistants make your life easier and are personalized in the app. While this is not absolutely necessary, it is a lot of fun. Therefore, we give it a good rating.

Conclusion: Philips HearLink 2010 MNR T
This test device ends up in the lower ranks and is missing some features. We assign it a score of 4.08. For less demanding listeners, this is acceptable, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
