The Philips HearLink 7030 CIC in review
Could this hearing aid from the Philips program be the right choice for you? In our review of the HearLink 7030 CIC, we have highlighted the most important aspects. Here we have a fine little hearing aid of a high quality level that is worn in the ear. The natural, cleverly chosen fit directly in the ear canal lays the foundation for good hearing success, as the sound has only a very short path to the eardrum. As a result, all tones actually reach the place where we want them to be.
The HearLink 7030 CIC provides sufficient amplification for nearly every hearing need.
Hearing comfort
At least as important as speech understanding is listening comfort. After all, our environment should sound as realistic and pleasant as possible. So let's take a look at the noise management: In this model offered by Philips, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management. Of course, noise suppression is integrated, designed to soften exhausting background noises. In the HearLink 7030 CIC, the disruptive sounds can be adjusted in several stages, allowing users to decide how much attenuation is really comfortable. We sorely missed wind noise suppression. Those who are often outdoors might find the clearly audible wind noises quite bothersome.
We are pleased to find good and efficient impulse sound attenuation here. It is definitely useful in everyday life, as it noticeably dampens slamming doors, clattering dishes, or similarly rattling noises. In spatial hearing, the HearLink 7030 CIC showcases its full strength: Due to its deep fit just before the eardrum, sound collection occurs like in an ear without a hearing aid. The outer ear naturally directs sound into the ear canal, and the existing head shadow effects are further utilized. Such good 3D hearing could probably not be artificially generated. Very important for a good speech-noise distinction is the number of frequency bands. With 20, this hearing aid is at the forefront and offers excellent adjustment options.
Speech in noisy environments is always a challenge. Philips addresses this issue with the use of artificial intelligence. The result is brilliant and clear speech transmission, while the ambient noises still come through at a realistically loud level.

Operation & connectivity
Every person has their own unique hearing needs. It's advantageous if one can customize their hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our tests, we discovered the following access options: The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it too. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a step-by-step adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional everyday life or hobbies? These can also be activated using the button. Anyone who wants to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. Unfortunately, this hearing aid cannot be adjusted via a remote control – a few points are lost there.
In our tests, we did not find any option for voice control. While this feature is not necessarily required, we would have appreciated it. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be possible, which would trigger a specific function by tapping your fingers on your ear. However, this option is not available in the HearLink 7030 CIC.
Although smartphone apps are offered for many hearing aids today, Philips unfortunately does not provide one for its HearLink 7030 CIC yet. The smartphone cannot connect to the hearing aid, as the necessary equipment with a radio antenna is unfortunately missing.

Simplicity & security
Usability is the next aspect we want to focus on. It’s about practicality and the question of how easy and safe it is to go through life with the hearing aid. When it comes to simplicity, it first involves easy, effortless listening. This works quite well with the existing situational automation in the HearLink 7030 CIC. However, when the acoustic environment is a bit more varied, the automation reaches its limits, and we prefer to rely on manual adjustment options. Some people have difficulty getting accustomed, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually leads us to the required target amplification. The duration can range from a few weeks to several months; it's individually adjustable. The individual steps are so small that one hardly notices that there has been a volume increase.
Many hearing aids today have a rechargeable battery, but the HearLink 7030 CIC still operates on disposable batteries. This is somewhat cumbersome to handle and also has a negative impact on the environment.
With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it withstands longer immersion in water, and it is also protected against touches.

Extras
Finally, let's take a quick look to see if there are any additional features: For example, a tinnitus option would be interesting. Unfortunately, we have not discovered any way to alleviate tinnitus with the HearLink 7030 CIC.
In mobile times like these, a remote service via an app would be very helpful. This would allow users to comfortably create a new hearing aid programming from home. Unfortunately, this service is not available for the HearLink 7030 CIC. Therefore, any requests for changes still require a visit to the specialist shop.
Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Philips model lacks the necessary sensors for this service. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle functions, but they are not available in the HearLink 7030 CIC. Other hearing aids can score with language translation or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.
