The comfort features determine how pleasant everyday listening experiences are. This hearing aid allows for solid comfort programming by the audiologist. A classic noise suppression aims to reduce annoying background noises to a tolerable level. In the Audeo Lumity 50 RT, the noise suppression is solid. There are hearing aids with significantly more effective attenuation, but this one should be sufficient for normal needs. We are impressed with how clearly the wind noise is suppressed and how stable the device performs even in stronger winds.

A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can adjust the volume up or down in several steps. Additional programs for specific hearing situations can also be activated with it. If you prefer to do without the button, you can simply have it disabled. Upon request, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows for effortless volume adjustment. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are currently adjusting your hearing aids.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter via voice commands. The idea is really good, but Phonak is not yet there with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it is not essential. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be feasible, which would trigger a specific function by tapping the fingers on the ear. However, this option does not exist in the Audeo Lumity 50 RT.
We always have our smartphones with us, and with the Audeo Lumity 50 RT, it is worthwhile because it can be customized via an app. The app is also really fun and has a range of features that one would not expect in a hearing aid app. If you enjoy playing, this is the right place for you. Continuing with the test: How is the usability? Is it easy or complicated to operate the hearing aid? Hearing is greatly facilitated by good situational awareness. In the Audeo Lumity 50 RT, we have found a quite solid automatic feature that handles the most common hearing situations well. This could be sufficient if the acoustic conditions are not too challenging. Very important in terms of simplicity is the support during the acclimatization process. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. In our test device, there is an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the adaptation phase. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
An extremely useful development in recent years, in our opinion, is the integrated battery. We are used to recharging electronic devices in our daily lives. And the Audeo Lumity 50 RT is rechargeable, allowing us to avoid the annoying battery changes.
We also take a look at the robustness of the casing and discover the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes a threat after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Lastly, we are interested to know if there are any additional goodies on top: We were really impressed by the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently plagued by a ringing or buzzing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Audeo Lumity 50 RT is essentially just a sound generator. It aims to produce broadband noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all areas of hearing. The tinnitus gets drowned out and is no longer perceived as bothersome.
We find the remote maintenance service available quite exciting. If you don't have the opportunity to go to the audiologist, you can instead contact them through the app, briefly describe your hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, you can upload it to your hearing aids.
Sensors in the hearing aid enable functions that provide real added value. This model from Phonak features such sensors that, for example, count your steps throughout the day. The data can then be viewed in the app. It's quite possible that further tracking functions will be added through subsequent updates. Then there are a few lifestyle functions that turn your hearing aid into a smart assistant. Connect with voice assistants like Siri, or discover what else the app has to offer. While this may not have much to do with actual hearing, it can be extremely useful.
