Phonak introduces the Audeo Marvel 30 312 T, a model from a solid mid-range price category. It can compensate for a mild to moderate hearing need. It is a delicate, small hearing aid that provides good sound through the placement of the small speaker in the ear canal. It is worn behind the ear.

Hearing comfort

The comfort features determine how pleasant listening is experienced in everyday life. In this hearing aid, we find only the bare essentials regarding listening comfort. A classic noise suppression aims to reduce annoying background noise to a tolerable level. The Audeo Marvel 30 312 T has a fairly simple type of noise suppression that should be sufficient for normal environments. Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not yet have wind noise suppression. What a pity.

A filter for rattling, popping noises is not present here – unfortunately, no points for that. The hearing aid can autonomously focus on the speaker across from it, but we do not receive much more support for spatial hearing from the Audeo Marvel 30 312 T. The number of equalizer bands is very important for adjusting to hearing needs. The 312 T only provides 8 and does not allow for many fine-tuning options in the long term.

An exciting topic in hearing acoustics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this Phonak model does not yet implement that.

“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there maybe an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, so let’s take a look at the control and connection options. For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume up or down, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special hearing situations through this. We do like the small remote controls, and we have found one for this model. This allows for discreet small adjustments to the volume or sound.

For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Phonak is not there yet with this device. Don’t worry about it, this feature would be nice but is not essential. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger, without having to press an extra button. However, this feature is not yet implemented here.

Smartphone apps are now frequently offered for better usability of hearing aids. In our assessment, the app from Phonak is one of the better ones because it offers a good set of adjustment options. You don’t need headphones here anymore, as it has a wireless option and can directly transmit sounds from the smartphone to the ears – if the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Usability is the next aspect we want to address. This is about everyday practicality and the question of how easy and safe it is to live with the hearing aid. The Audeo Marvel 30 312 T features a solid everyday automatic that is likely sufficient for a quieter life. However, for more complex listening environments, we recommend the additional manual programs. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new sounds.

The Audeo Marvel 30 312 T is not rechargeable. It continues to get its power from disposable 312 batteries, which need to be changed every few days.

The Audeo Marvel 30 is nearly dustproof and waterproof, and with its IP 68 rating, it is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras

Finally, we want to know if the hearing aid offers any specials: A special tinnitus program can be programmed on request in the Audeo Marvel 30 312 T. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find that very useful and are happy to award extra points.

We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be utilized. If one does not have the opportunity to go to the hearing care professional, they can contact them instead via the app, briefly describe their hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, they load it into their hearing aids.

Some hearing aids can track specific health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Audeo Marvel 30 312 T. Other hearing aids already have a few extended options, such as a fall alarm or reminder functions. We do not find this here, and it is not that dramatic, because the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
