The Phonak Bolero Marvel 30 M in review
Dieses Hörgerät ist schon ein wenig älter und entspricht nicht mehr der neuesten Technik. Deshalb hat die Gesamtnote eine Abwertung bekommen.
The Bolero Marvel 30 M from Phonak is an early widely used hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. The customer receives a small mini hearing aid from a solid mid-price range, which can compensate for a mild to moderate hearing need.
Hearing comfort
First, we assess the hearing comfort features. What types of sounds does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a diverse everyday life? Here with this test device, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. As in all hearing aids, we also find the typical noise cancellation here. It is meant to reduce monotonous, noisy background sounds to the point where they are no longer as prominent. With the Bolero Marvel 30 M, we had hoped for a bit more adjustable depth, but – well.
Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not yet have wind noise suppression. Too bad. A pulse sound attenuator is unfortunately not included in the Bolero Marvel 30 M. With 8 frequency bands, we are not entirely satisfied in the M, but it should suffice for uncomplicated hearing curves. The sound is probably not entirely natural with this setup. The hearing aid can automatically orient itself towards the speaker in front, but we don’t get much more support for spatial hearing from the Bolero Marvel 30 M.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from Phonak.
Rating Hearing comfort: 5,3
Operation & connectivity
Every person has their own specific hearing needs. It's advantageous to be able to customize hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our test, we discovered the following access options: There is a button directly on the hearing aid. This allows one to change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. The use is of course optional. Those who prefer not to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This way, one can make adjustments to the hearing aid conveniently and discreetly.
In our test, we did not find any option for voice control. While this feature isn't strictly necessary, we would have welcomed it. Tap Control would also have been an interesting feature. With that, one could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. However, this is not available in the Bolero Marvel 30 M yet.
To enhance usability, the manufacturer also provides us with a smartphone app. The Phonak app for Bolero Marvel 30 M is impressive: one can not only adjust the volume but also truly influence the sound and various noise parameters. The Bolero Marvel 30 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We like this and are happy to award points.

Simplicity & security
The user-friendliness is the next aspect we want to address. This is about everyday practicality and the question of how easy and safe it is to live with the hearing aid. The Bolero Marvel 30 M automatically accesses the most important hearing settings, making daily use easier. However, those who frequently experience changing acoustic environments should have the manual additional programs configured. The adjustment to the new hearing sensation is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It gradually adjusts the amplification in barely perceptible steps until my hearing loss is fully compensated. I need to do nothing more than wear my hearing aids regularly.
We regret that the Bolero Marvel 30 M does not have a rechargeable battery but operates with hearing aid batteries of size 312. This is not a major issue, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand: This hearing aid does not need to be charged daily; it runs for a longer time on one battery.
This model seems to be a very robust hearing aid, as it has an IP 67 rating. This guarantees us protection against harmful dust and safeguards against contact and short-term immersion.

Phonak Bolero Marvel 30 M:
Extras
Finally, we want to know if the hearing aid perhaps offers any specials: Phonak has integrated a noise generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
A very good additional benefit comes from the remote maintenance service. Through the app, one can contact their hearing care professional and describe their hearing problem. They can then adjust the settings accordingly and load them into the hearing aids via the app. For people with little time or a long commute, this is a great service.
Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Bolero Marvel 30 M. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle functions, but those are not available in the Bolero Marvel 30 M. Other hearing aids can score points with features like language translation or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.

Conclusion: Phonak Bolero Marvel 30 M
In the overall view, this device ranks in the lower positions and provides us with hardly more than a solid basic setup. Of course, one can understand speech with the device, just like with all hearing aids, but not much is done to reduce listening effort. Our overall score: 4.81. Please always consider this score in relation to the price range of this hearing aid.
