Phonak brings its Bolero Marvel 70 M to the market, a conventional hearing aid from the upper price segment. It is a small mini hearing aid for mild to moderate hearing losses and is worn behind the ear.
Hearing comfort
First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience becomes. In this hearing aid, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. The traditional noise suppression reduces constant, unimportant sounds slightly. In the Bolero Marvel 70 M, we find a truly strong noise suppression, making listening exceedingly pleasant. The Bolero Marvel 70 M is equipped with an incredibly good wind detection system. Nothing stands in the way of a walk by the sea.
Cracking, metallic noises don't stand a chance in this hearing aid; they are significantly dampened with a multi-stage tool. Spatial hearing works very reliably. Directional hearing is supported, and the spatial impression is good. With 16 frequency channels, the Bolero Marvel 70 M clearly belongs to the better devices and allows for an individual, well-sounding programming.
Other hearing aids are already using artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy has not yet been implemented in the Bolero Marvel 70 M.

Operation & connectivity
The operation of hearing aids today is as simple or as complex as anyone would like it to be. The basic functions are of course fully automatic. We wanted to find out how users can further access the Bolero Marvel 70 M. For those who want to adjust the volume quickly and easily, there is a button on the device. They can also select additional programs for special hearing situations through it. Those who are not keen on touching their ears to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This way, changes to the hearing aid can be made conveniently and inconspicuously.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Phonak has not reached that point with this device yet. Don’t worry, this feature would be nice but is not essential. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple fingertip in this Phonak model, as it would have needed certain sensors in the housing for that.
To improve usability, the manufacturer also provides us with a smartphone app. The Phonak app for Bolero Marvel 70 M is impressive: not only can you change the volume, but you can really influence the sound and various noise parameters. You no longer need headphones because it has a wireless option and can transfer sounds directly from the smartphone to the ears – as long as the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

How does one manage with the hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will evaluate. Because only when such a device works simply and conveniently can one become accustomed to it. Ideally, the hearing aid should operate largely autonomously. In this regard, the performance of the Bolero Marvel 70 M is exceptionally good. It has a lot of typical hearing situations stored, which the device recognizes independently and always generates the appropriate setting. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new auditory impressions.
The Bolero Marvel 70 M is not rechargeable. It continues to get its energy from disposable batteries of size 312, which need to be changed every few days.
This model appears to be a very robust hearing aid, as it has an IP 67 rating. This guarantees us protection against harmful dust and protection against contact and short-term immersion.

Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find something here: We noticed the tinnitus option. If desired, one can set up a special tinnitus program. This provides a gentle noise in the ears to distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be tailored to personal listening preferences.
A very good additional benefit is offered through the remote maintenance feature. Through the app, one can contact their audiologist and describe their hearing issue. They can adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. This is a great service for people with little time or a long commute.
Many hearing aids today still come with a few health features. However, since the Bolero Marvel 70 M does not have specific sensors for that, we cannot present any special features here. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle features, but the Bolero Marvel 70 M lacks those. Other hearing aids may score with speech translators or fall alerts, but here it remains with the usual range of functions.
