We tested a small hearing aid this time from an affordable price range. It is the Phonak Virto Paradise 30 312 NW O. It is worn in the ear and is designed for mild, moderate, and also severe hearing losses. The optimal position at the front of the ear canal is due to its design, which is why it also delivers a nice, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
In the first chapter, we assess the quality of sound management. We call it hearing comfort, because these features determine how pleasant the sound is for the hearing aid wearer. However, sounds can be of various natures and require very different tools for suppression. In the Virto Paradise 30 312 NW O, we found few options for comfort adjustment. First, we look at noise suppression. It is designed to tame everyday sounds like ventilation or refrigerator noise. This Phonak model has a very effective noise suppression implemented. It can be adjusted by the audiologist to the individual sensations and provides exactly the level of attenuation that the customer desires. Unfortunately, we did not find a blast filter that responds to short, loud noises. We searched in vain for wind management; there is no wind noise suppression here. A decent foundation for programming the Virto Paradise 30 312 NW O is provided by the 12 equalizer bands. As sound junkies, we wish for a few more, but for the typical situations we encounter in our daily lives, one can already create quite a reasonable sound profile from this. 3D hearing is very important for a natural impression. The device leaves nothing to be desired and impressed us in this regard.

In a quieter daily routine, one can manage, but as soon as you have a varied listening experience, manual adjustments are unavoidable. Some people have difficulty adjusting, but this hearing aid makes it easier for us to cope with the new volume. There is an acclimatization manager that gradually guides us to the required target gain. The adjustment period can last from a few weeks to several months, and it is individually adjustable. The individual levels are so small that you hardly notice that there has been an increase in volume.
The Virto Paradise 30 312 NW O is not rechargeable; it operates with hearing aid batteries. Unlike a rechargeable battery, it does not need to be charged daily, although the size 312 battery needs to be changed after a few days.
For a secure everyday feeling, a solid dust and moisture protection is also important. However, there is no IP certification available. Presumably, this model is not really well-equipped against invasive dust or moisture. This is not up-to-date and results in point deduction.

Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find some here: Worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. Those plagued by annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, soft sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is no longer bothersome.
A nice feature would be a remote maintenance service to receive help from a hearing professional even when one cannot come into the store. Unfortunately, this is not available here, so there is no extra point awarded.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track a few personal health data, for example. However, the Virto Paradise 30 312 NW O does not offer this. The functionality of the Virto Paradise 30 312 NW O is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional functions such as fall alarms or Siri connections provide decent added value but are not relevant for a good hearing balance.
