The Phonak Virto Paradise 70 312 in review
Phonak hat seine Technologie erneuert, wodurch ältere Modelle als überholt gelten und in der Bewertung eine Herabstufung erfahren.
This test report is about the Virto Paradise 70 312. It was developed by Phonak and covers moderate, severe, and fluctuating hearing losses. This variant is worn in the ear. The Virto Paradise 70 312 is a small hearing aid from the Advanced Class. We achieve clean sound transmission through the sound outlet positioned close to the eardrum.
Hearing comfort
First, we assess the hearing comfort features. What types of sounds does the hearing aid recognize? How does it manage them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied daily life? In this test device, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. As in all hearing aids, we also find typical noise reduction here. It is designed to reduce monotonous, noisy background sounds enough that they are no longer so prominent. With the Virto Paradise 70 312, you can be absolutely satisfied with the noise reduction. On one hand, it has a remarkable depth of control, meaning it can significantly reduce sounds. On the other hand, it can be adjusted in multiple stages, as you don’t need full attenuation all the time.
A multi-stage wind noise management system is also included. This ensures that listening outdoors is pleasant and free of disturbances. Impulsive sounds often occur in daily life. There’s the dishwasher that needs to be unloaded, or the keychain that’s placed on the table. The Virto Paradise 70 312 features strong impulse sound management that makes these sounds bearable. A brilliant listening experience is also based on the number of frequency bands. The more bands there are, and the narrower the individual frequency channels, the better the hearing aid can be adjusted to individual preferences. Here, we get a total of 20 bands. This not only allows for an excellent sound impression but also enables very precise speech and noise suppression. A real highlight in this device is spatial hearing. Recognizing directions and estimating distances – with the Virto Paradise 70 312, all of this is no problem.
An exciting topic in hearing acoustics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet implemented in this Phonak model.
Rating Hearing comfort: 1,6
Operation & connectivity
Since you probably don't have your audiologist by your side all the time, it is quite helpful to be able to make changes to your hearing aid yourself. There are various control options available, and we will look at which ones the Virto Paradise 70 312 has. First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very sensible because it is the easiest and fastest way to make adjustments. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to change anything directly at the ear, you can of course deactivate the button. If desired, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows you to effortlessly adjust the volume. The handling is not only incredibly easy, but no one will notice that you are currently adjusting your hearing aids.
We're always excited when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. However, this is currently not available in the Virto Paradise 70 312. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple fingertip in this Phonak model, as it would have required specific sensors in the housing.
Our favorite tool for hearing aids is the app, and we really like this one. In addition to the obligatory volume controls, there is also an option for sound manipulation. This significantly expands the potential of the Virto Paradise 70 312 and provides relief when hearing becomes exhausting again. For our digital everyday life, a streaming option wouldn't be bad. The present device fulfills our wish and includes a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows you to stream phone calls and sounds directly from the smartphone to the hearing aids.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 1,8

Simplicity & security
To continue to adopt the perspective of hearing aid users, we certainly need a test for everyday usability. Here's what we found: The situation recognition integrated into the Virto Paradise 70 312 is rather average. The most important loud and quiet situations are recognized and adapted. However, for acoustically more complex moments, this is not quite sufficient, and additional manual adjustment options are necessary. The integrated acclimatization manager can be of great help when starting your journey into the world of hearing aids. Its task is to gradually raise the volume of the hearing aid in tiny increments until the target volume is reached. This allows you to comfortably and slowly get used to the new hearing impressions. More information on acclimatization and other hearing aids with this feature is summarized here: Acclimatization to Hearing Aids.
Unfortunately, the Virto Paradise 70 312 is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, so regular size 312 batteries are needed for operation.
Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not have special protection against dust or moisture ingress; in any case, there is no certification defining the robustness of the device. It may not be well-suited for an active everyday life.
Rating Simplicity & security: 3,3
Extras
We complete the test by checking if there are a few extras for you: Here we noticed the tinnitus option. Anyone who wishes can set up a special tinnitus program. This softly applies white noise to the ears if needed, to distract from the annoying tinnitus a bit. The sounds can be tailored to personal hearing preferences.
Phonak keeps up with the times and offers a future-oriented feature with the remote fitting service. Working people with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer commute to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.
There are no sensors in this Virto Paradise 70 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have that function on board. The device from Phonak focuses on essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation features. While that would have been fun, it is not necessary for a good listening experience.
Rating Extras: 2,5
