In this test report, we are discussing the Virto Paradise 90 Titanium CIC. It was developed by Phonak and covers mild, moderate, and also severe hearing losses. This variant is worn in the ear. The Virto Paradise 90 Titanium CIC is a small, barely visible hearing aid from the high-end category. We achieve clean sound transmission through the wearing position directly in the ear canal.

Finally, the Phonak Paradise technology is now available in in-ear devices. By using titanium, the devices can be constructed significantly more elegantly. Titanium is 15 times more break-resistant than the conventional material used for in-ear shells.

Hearing comfort

The listening comfort determines whether someone enjoys wearing their hearing aids or not. Therefore, we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. With this model, which Phonak presents to us, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management. Naturally, noise suppression is integrated to mitigate tiring background sounds. The Virto Paradise 90 Titanium CIC features one of the most powerful noise suppression systems on the market. A multi-stage wind noise management is also included, ensuring that listening outdoors is pleasant and disturbance-free.

Short and intense sounds can often be annoying, but this model has an adjustable impulse sound control. This makes sounds like cutlery clattering, drawers slamming, or newspaper rustling less unpleasant. With the Virto Paradise 90 Titanium CIC, there's no need to reconstruct 3D hearing, as it remains completely intact. This is made possible by the deep fit in the ear canal. For a precise, lifelike listening experience, the number of adjustable frequency bands is of great importance. With 20, this Phonak device is a true top model and allows for differentiated fine-tuning over several years.

Operation & connectivity

The operation options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as each user prefers. The basic functions operate fully automatically, of course. We wanted to know how users can further access the Virto Paradise 90 Titanium CIC. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With this, you can change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. Using it is, of course, optional. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it's one of the most convenient ways to adjust the hearing aid louder or quieter or to switch to another hearing program. No one notices it; you don't need to touch your ear.

Voice commands are a fairly new way of operating hearing aids. However, we do not have this option in this model. That's not a big problem - as long as you can hear well. Another option to control the hearing aids is a tapping control. To use it, you simply tap your fingers on your ear, which triggers a specific function. But this Phonak device does not have this capability.

We missed an app for the Virto Paradise 90 Titanium CIC during our testing. If controlling via smartphone is important to you, you should look for another model. Unfortunately, we have to forgo a streaming function here and continue to hold the smartphone to the ear in the usual way.

Simplicity & security

Let's continue with the test: How is the user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? With top-notch situation recognition, the Virto Paradise 90 Titanium CIC has completely convinced us. The hearing aid adapts seamlessly to the acoustic environment and requires almost no intervention from us. Hearing feels completely normal. The integrated acclimatization manager can be of great help when starting to use hearing aids. Its task is to gradually adjust the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This way, you can relax and gradually get accustomed to the new hearing impressions. The Virto Paradise 90 Titanium CIC gets its power from small disposable batteries that need to be changed every few days. While this isn't rocket science, it should be considered, especially in case of motor difficulties. A rechargeable battery would be much simpler to handle.

We had an untroubled everyday life in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands – no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to soapy bath water or saltwater.

Finally, we want to know if the hearing aid might still offer any specials: Phonak has integrated a noise generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.

A nice feature would be a remote maintenance service, allowing the hearing professional to assist even when one cannot come to the store. But unfortunately, this is not available here, so there is no extra point for that.

Many hearing aids today still come with a few health functions. However, as the Virto Paradise 90 Titanium CIC does not have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any particular features here. It would have been nice to have some lifestyle functions, but those are not available in the Virto Paradise 90 Titanium CIC. Other hearing aids may score points with speech translators or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.
