The ReSound Key 2 62-DRW in review
Diese Technik ist nicht mehr ganz aktuell. Wir nehmen daher eine Abwertung in der Gesamtnote vor.
Here we take a look at a hearing aid at the lowest price level, worn behind the ear. It is called Key 2 62-DRW and comes from the manufacturer ReSound. It can be used by anyone with moderate, severe, and fluctuating hearing loss who desires a hearing aid of small size. Due to the direct positioning of the speaker in the ear canal, it has very good sound characteristics.
Hearing comfort
First, we evaluate the hearing comfort features. What types of sounds does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied daily life? Here with this test device, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. As with all hearing aids, we also find the typical noise cancellation here. It is supposed to reduce monotonous, noisy background sounds so they are no longer so prominent. However, with the Key 2 62-DRW, it only works very limitedly. Looking at the price, that could well be fitting.
There is a basic wind noise reduction. Outside, it is quite useful, but it is not sufficient for a stronger autumn wind. A filter for rattling or popping noises is not present here – unfortunately, no point for that. The equalizer in the Key 2 62-DRW has only 6 bands. This means that any changes can only be made to relatively large frequency ranges. Therefore, one always makes significant changes, and the small nuances cannot be implemented. Unfortunately, there is nothing to say about spatial hearing here; the microphones have no additional functions that could enhance directional hearing.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from ReSound.
Rating Hearing comfort: 5,2

ReSound Key 2 62-DRW:
Operation & connectivity
The majority of features are automatically activated by this ReSound model. However, it can be very useful to have the option to expand the functionality a bit more. In our test, we found out what options we have here. For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special listening situations through it. A remote control is available for the Key 2 62-DRW. It is quite handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up/down option as well as different listening programs.
Voice commands are a fairly new way of operating hearing aids. However, this model does not have that capability yet. That’s not a big deal - the main thing is that you can hear well. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a simple tap of the finger, without needing to press a button. This feature has not been implemented here yet.
For better usability, the manufacturer also provides us with an app for smartphones. The ReSound app for Key 2 62-DRW is impressive: not only can you change the volume, but you can really influence the sound and various noise parameters. A streaming option would not be bad for our digital everyday life. The present device fulfills our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz radio module. With this, you can send phone calls and sounds directly from the smartphone to the hearing aids.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 1,8

Simplicity & security
How does one cope with hearing aids in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will evaluate. Because only when such a device works simply and effortlessly can one become accustomed to it. We receive relatively little support from the automatic program in the Key 2 62-DRW. Without a few individual hearing programs, one will likely struggle in a lively everyday setting. There is still no automatic acclimatization manager here. So I have to cope with the full target volume immediately or have the hearing aid settings readjusted regularly by my hearing professional.
The Key 2 62-DRW is not equipped with a battery, meaning it is not rechargeable. It uses a hearing aid battery size 13. This needs to be replaced every few days.
We take a look at the robustness of the housing and discover in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water becomes dangerous only after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.
Rating Simplicity & security: 3,3
Extras
At the end of our test report, there is still a little space for the extra features: A special tinnitus program can be programmed upon request in the Key 2 62-DRW. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and happily award extra points.
ReSound keeps up with the times and provides a future-oriented feature with the remote setting service. Working people with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer journey to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.
There are no sensors in this Key 2 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this function on board. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle functions, but they are not available in the Key 2 62-DRW. Other hearing aids can score points with speech translators or fall alarms, but here it remains with the usual range of functions.
Rating Extras: 2,5
Conclusion: ReSound Key 2 62-DRW
This test device ranks in the lower positions overall and lacks some features. We give it a score of 3.51. For less demanding listeners, this is acceptable, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more comprehensive comfort features.
