The ReSound Key 2 ITC-DW in review
Diese Technik ist nicht mehr ganz aktuell. Wir nehmen daher eine Abwertung in der Gesamtnote vor.
Here we take a look at a hearing aid at a lower price level that is worn in the ear. It is called Key 2 ITC-DW and comes from the manufacturer ReSound. It can be used by anyone with mild, moderate, and even severe hearing needs who desires a small-sized hearing aid. Due to its optimal positioning at the front of the ear canal, it has very good sound properties.
Hearing comfort
The comfort features determine how pleasant hearing is experienced in everyday life. This hearing aid only includes the absolute essentials for hearing comfort. A classic noise suppression feature is supposed to reduce annoying background noises to a bearable level. The Key 2 ITC-DW has only a very slight noise reduction. This hearing aid can detect wind noise, but the reduction is hardly noticeable.
A so-called bang filter would have been nice; it would have made the clattering when emptying the dishwasher somewhat more bearable. But we have to do without that in the Key 2 ITC-DW. Locating sounds or speakers in the environment is rather difficult with this hearing aid. There are no supporting functions in the microphones. Thus, we can hardly award any points here, and we recommend considering this aspect carefully. After all, spatial hearing also serves to navigate public spaces and traffic. The Key 2 ITC-DW has only 6 frequency bands, just meeting the minimum requirements. One should not have overly high expectations regarding sound quality.
The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet implemented here.

ReSound Key 2 ITC-DW:
Operation & connectivity
Almost all of us own a smartphone, so the question arises whether it can be connected to the new hearing aid. Let's take a look at the connectivity and usability of the Key 2 ITC-DW. First, we discovered a button right on the hearing aid. This is very sensible, as it is the simplest and quickest way to make adjustments. The volume can be adjusted through this button, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to make adjustments directly at the ear, you can of course deactivate the button. A remote control is available for the Key 2 ITC-DW. It is quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up and down option as well as various hearing programs.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but unfortunately, this one from ReSound cannot yet. This would be practical if your fingers are not as agile anymore or if you simply like smart gadgets. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be conceivable, which would trigger a certain function by tapping your ear with your fingers. However, this option is not available in the Key 2 ITC-DW.
Our favorite tool for hearing aids is the app, and we really like this one. In addition to the standard volume controls, there is also an option for sound modification. This significantly expands the potential of the Key 2 ITC-DW and provides relief when hearing becomes tiring again. You no longer need headphones here, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to the ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes, for example, automated functions, robustness, and user-friendliness. The automatic situation recognition is supposed to make listening easier. However, the Key 2 ITC-DW struggles with changing or difficult acoustic environments, as it lacks some adaptive algorithms. Additionally, it is advisable to have a few extra hearing programs set up for this device. An automatic acclimatization manager is particularly useful for those using a hearing aid for the first time. The volume is gradually adjusted to the target amplification over a longer period of time. Unfortunately, in our test, we did not discover a suitable tool for this, so: no point for that.
The Key 2 ITC-DW is not rechargeable. It continues to receive its power from disposable batteries size 312, which need to be replaced every few days.
We had a carefree everyday life in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We walked through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - all without any problems. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bath water or saltwater.

Extras
At the end of our test report, there is still a bit of space for the extra features: Worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. Those plagued by bothersome ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, soft sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus blends into the background noise and is no longer disturbing.
A very good added benefit comes from the remote maintenance offer. Through the app, one can contact their hearing care professional and describe their hearing problem. They can then adjust the settings accordingly and load them into the hearing aids via the app. This is a great service for people with little time or a long commute.
There are no sensors in this Key 2 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For instance, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this function on board. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle functions, but they are not available in the Key 2 ITC-DW. Other hearing aids can score points with speech translators or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.
