The ReSound Key 3 61-DRWC in review
Diese Technik ist nicht mehr ganz aktuell. Wir nehmen daher eine Abwertung in der Gesamtnote vor.
Could this hearing aid from the ReSound program be the right choice for you? In our review of the Key 3 61-DRWC, we have highlighted the key aspects. Here we have a small hearing aid at a lower price level, worn behind the ear. The deep placement of the speaker in the ear canal lays the foundation for good hearing success, as the sound has only a very short distance to travel to the eardrum. This ensures that all sounds reach us exactly where we want them.
The Key 3 61-DRWC provides sufficient amplification for mild, moderate, and severe hearing needs.
Hearing comfort
What is most bothersome for hearing aid users? Exactly, the background noise. Therefore, let’s first take a look at what comfort features the test device includes. The Key 3 61-DRWC provides only the bare minimum in terms of hearing comfort. A normal noise suppression is definitely present. It is supposed to dampen constant sounds like street noise or the hum of the air conditioning. Our test device from ReSound contains only a very light noise reduction.
A pulse sound attenuator is unfortunately not included in the Key 3 61-DRWC. The device from ReSound can also detect wind noise, but this only results in a very slight noise reduction. For regular daily walks, this is sufficient, but true outdoor enthusiasts will not be satisfied with this. The number of equalizer bands is very important for adapting to hearing needs. The 61-DRWC provides us with only 8, which does not allow for many fine-tuning options in the long run. We are still quite far from experiencing 3D surround sound here. Only the switchable focus forward offers a bit of hearing support in company.
Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but the Key 3 61-DRWC has not implemented this strategy yet.

ReSound Key 3 61-DRWC:
Operation & connectivity
The operation options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as one might wish. The basic functions run fully automatically, of course. We wanted to know how users can further access the Key 3 61-DRWC. First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very practical, as it is the simplest and fastest way to make changes. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If someone prefers not to adjust anything directly at their ear, they can also deactivate the button. If desired, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows for easy volume control. The handling is not only child's play, but no one will notice that you are currently adjusting your hearing aids.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but ReSound has not yet reached that point with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice but is dispensable. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, tap control could be conceivable, triggering a specific function by tapping the ear with fingers. However, this option is not available in the Key 3 61-DRWC.
As expected, we find a suitable application for the smartphone. Here we have a powerful app that trusts its users and offers a comprehensive toolbox. Headphones are no longer needed here, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to the ears – if the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 1,8

Simplicity & security
Of course, we are also interested in how quickly one can adapt to the Key 3 61-DRWC and how easy daily use is. We do not necessarily experience simple, comfortable listening with the Key 3 61-DRWC. In a quieter daily life, one can certainly manage, but as soon as you have a varied listening experience, manual adjustments are unavoidable. The adaptation to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I need to do nothing more than wear my hearing aids regularly.
In our opinion, an extremely useful development in recent years is the built-in battery. We are used to recharging electronic devices in our daily lives. And the Key 3 61-DRWC is rechargeable, allowing us to forgo the hassle of battery changes.
The Key 3 is virtually dust and waterproof and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.

ReSound Key 3 61-DRWC:
Extras
Finally, let's take a quick look to see if there are any extras: The tinnitus program is definitely worth mentioning. Those plagued by annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, soft sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and no longer stands out as disturbing.
A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a precious commodity. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. If someone needs a new programming for their hearing aids, they can easily contact the audiologist through the app and describe their hearing preferences. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a customized setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is uploaded to the hearing aid and can be tried out immediately. This definitely earns extra points in our test.
Many hearing aids today still come with a few health functions. However, since the Key 3 61-DRWC does not have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any particular features here. The device from ReSound focuses on essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation features. While that would have been fun, it is not necessary for a good listening experience.
Rating Extras: 2,5
