The Key 3 67-DW from ReSound is a standard hearing aid with a thick or thin plastic tube that is worn behind the ear. The customer receives a delicate, small hearing aid for a modest budget that can compensate for mild to moderate hearing needs.

Hearing comfort

At least as important as speech understanding is hearing comfort. After all, we want our environment to sound as realistic and pleasant as possible. So let's take a look at the sound management: In this model offered by ReSound, we find only the absolute necessities regarding hearing comfort. Of course, noise suppression is integrated, which is meant to alleviate exhausting background noises. In the Key 3 67-DW, there is only a minimal basic reduction. A certain tolerance for noise should already be present in the hearing aid user. For active outdoor fans, we always find wind noise management useful. While this device has one, it is not very effective. It cannot be individually adjusted either.

A filter for clattering, popping sounds is not present here – unfortunately, that’s a point missing. Spatial hearing is unfortunately not very pronounced. The hearing aids can focus forward, but this does not help when trying to determine from which direction a car is approaching or where someone is calling from. The 8 frequency channels are okay. However, it may be that the programming for individual hearing needs is not quite precise, and some sound quality compromises might have to be made.

A fascinating topic in hearing acoustics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet implemented in this ReSound model.

Operation & connectivity

Almost every one of us owns a smartphone, so the question arises whether it can also be connected to the new hearing aid. Let's take a look at the connectivity and usability of the Key 3 67-DW. For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special hearing situations through this. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it's one of the most convenient ways to turn the hearing aid up or down or switch to another hearing program. No one notices it, and there is no need to reach for the ear.

Voice commands are a fairly new way of operating hearing aids. However, in this model, we don't have this option yet. That's not a big deal - the main thing is that you can hear well. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger without having to press a button. However, this feature has not been implemented here yet.

For better usability, the manufacturer also provides us with an app for smartphones. The ReSound app for Key 3 67-DW is impressive: You can not only adjust the volume, but also really influence the sound and various noise parameters. You don't need headphones anymore, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to the ears - if the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security

An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its suitability for everyday use. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. An automatic situation recognition is only rudimentarily integrated into the Key 3 67-DW. We often have to resort to the manual options and adjust our hearing aid to the environments ourselves. The adjustment to the new hearing experience is facilitated by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely balanced. I just need to do nothing more than wear my hearing aids regularly.

The Key 3 67-DW is not rechargeable. It continues to get its power from disposable batteries of size 312, which need to be changed every few days.

We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and discover in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes dangerous after prolonged submersion. A protection against touch also belongs to this.

Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction maneuver, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and is no longer annoying. This is a simple but effective tool, and it gets extra points from us.

We really like the remote adjustment capability. It is very helpful whenever you want to change just a small thing in the hearing aid settings but don't want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you make contact via the app, and the hearing professional sends back a customized data package in the same way.

A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track personal health data, for example. However, the Key 3 67-DW does not offer this. The hearing aid does without additional features such as special assistance systems, a fall alert, or language translators. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.

Für anspruchsarme Hörer ist das in Ordnung, für einen sehr aktiven Lebensstil empfehlen wir allerdings ein Hörgerät mit umfangreicheren Komfortmerkmalen.
