The Key 4 67-DW from ReSound is a small, hardly visible hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. Due to its design and the comfortable position of the speaker in the ear canal, very good sound transmission is possible. The Key 4 67-DW is a hearing aid from the lower mid-range and is suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.
Hearing comfort
The hearing comfort determines whether someone enjoys wearing their hearing aids or not. That’s why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. For this model, which ReSound presents to us, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. Of course, noise suppression is integrated, which is supposed to reduce tiring background sounds. The Key 4 67-DW has a simple noise reduction integrated by the manufacturer, but it cannot be adjusted further. We found a basic wind detection, but unfortunately, nothing is adjustable there.
The impulse sound management in this device is not really recommended. Short, loud noises still sound quite intense. We cannot generate a real 3D spatial sound with the current test device. Especially outdoors, one should often look around to locate individual sound sources. However, focusing on a specific speaker works quite well with the integrated directional microphones. The 12 equalizer bands provide a decent foundation for programming the Key 4 67-DW. As sound junkies, we do wish for a few more, but for the typical situations we encounter in our daily lives, a quite reasonable sound image can be created from it.
The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet in use here.

ReSound Key 4 67-DW: The technology of this hearing aid is located on or behind the ear. The housing contains two microphones. In everyday life, it is advantageous if these microphones operate in 360° mode, as this provides a realistic impression of the surrounding sounds. In conversation situations, the microphones can then be switched to a directional characteristic. They then focus on the speaker you are currently looking at. This can significantly enhance communication, especially in noisy environments.
Operation & connectivity
The operation of hearing aids today is as simple or as complex as one might wish. The basic functions operate fully automatically. We wanted to know how, as a user, one can access the Key 4 67-DW beyond that. The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it too. It can be programmed according to preferences. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for step-by-step adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different specialized programs for your professional daily life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you prefer to keep everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. A remote control is available for the Key 4 67-DW. It’s quite handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume control option along with various listening programs.
The modern form of operation via voice command is not yet available in the Key 4 67-DW. In addition to buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also feature tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch. However, we don’t have that here at ReSound, as it would require specific sensors.
Our favorite tool for hearing aids is the app, and we really like this one. Besides the obligatory volume controls, there is also an option for sound customization. This significantly expands the potential of the Key 4 67-DW and provides relief when hearing becomes challenging. We had a lot of fun with direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone are transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into a perfect hands-free device or a wireless headphone. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is incredibly comfortable.

Now let's take a look at how the usage in everyday life is structured. Is the handling easy? Do I get a safe device? In terms of simplicity while listening, we do not make any compromises. We expect the hearing aid to function fully automatically in the background and not require us to constantly press buttons. With the Key 4 67-DW, we are a bit disappointed. Only the basic situations are automatically recognized. This means that we cannot really do without manual control options. The integrated acclimatization manager can be of great help when starting with hearing aids. Its task is to gradually increase the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This way, you can relax and gradually get used to the new listening experiences. The Key 4 67-DW gets its power from small disposable batteries that need to be changed every few days. While this is not rocket science, it should be considered, especially for those with motor difficulties. A rechargeable battery would be much simpler to handle.
We had a carefree everyday life during our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and subsequently took out the hearing aids with wet hands – it was no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to bubbly bathwater or saltwater.

It can transmit sound wirelessly and perfectly tuned to your hearing aids. The best part: you can still converse with your loved ones and are not as isolated as with headphones.
Extras
Before we come to the end, let's take a look at the extras: We noticed the tinnitus option here. If desired, you can set up a special tinnitus program. This gently plays a soothing noise to distract from the irritating tinnitus. The sounds can be tailored to personal hearing preferences.
ReSound is keeping up with the times and offers a forward-looking feature with the remote adjustment service. Busy people with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer journey to the specialist shop also benefit from this special service.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track, for example, some personal health data. However, the Key 4 67-DW doesn't offer this. It would have been nice to have some lifestyle functions, but those are not available in the Key 4 67-DW. Other hearing aids may score points with language translators or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.
