Therefore, we look at various parameters and provide you with the results of our product tests. This test report is about the Nexia 4 Rechargeable ITE from ReSound. This is a small hearing aid that is in a price range slightly above average and is suitable for mild to severe hearing loss. It is worn in the ear. Due to the comfortable wearing area at the front of the ear canal entrance, it has pretty good acoustic sound properties right from the start.

We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. However, from our experience in the hearing acoustics trade, we also know that hearing comfort is at least equally important. It is about processing background noise in such a way that it does not restrict speech understanding while still creating a realistic sound image. In testing the Nexia 4 Akku ITE, a solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. Let's take a look at the individual features:

Of course, this ReSound device has noise suppression, as that has become standard. Noise suppression means that uniform and rather monotonous sounds (e.g., air conditioning, vacuum cleaner...) are attenuated. Here, the noise suppression is solid. There are hearing aids that have significantly more effective attenuation, but this one should be sufficient for normal demands.

After all, the Nexia 4 Akku ITE includes a so-called impulse filter. But is that always enough? Those who enjoy being outdoors will appreciate the wind noise suppression. While it doesn't filter out as strongly, it is definitely useful. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but with the existing 12 channels, one can already work quite well. Spatial hearing may be a little difficult at first, but once you understand how the microphones behave in certain situations, you can assess directions and distances quite reliably.

An exciting topic in hearing acoustics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this ReSound model does not yet implement that.

The control options for hearing aids are today as simple or as complex as anyone would like. The basic functions are, of course, fully automated. We wanted to know how users can additionally access the Nexia 4 Akku ITE. The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it as well. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Would you like a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a stepwise adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional life or your hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who wants to leave everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. A very practical addition is the small remote control, which is available optionally. For us, this is one of the most convenient ways to make the hearing aid louder or quieter or to switch to another hearing program. No one realizes it, and reaching for the ear is unnecessary.

For some time now, there has been a trend of adjusting hearing aids louder or quieter via voice commands. The idea is really good, but ReSound is not yet there with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice but is dispensable. Tap Control would have also been an interesting function. With that, you can change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But this is not yet available in the Nexia 4 Akku ITE.

Apps for hearing aids are widespread today. This one for the Nexia 4 Akku ITE has sparked our playful side. It's fun to use this app, as it expands the functionality of the hearing aid with a few very useful tools. The Nexia 4 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. Here’s what we found: We would have liked the Nexia 4 Akku ITE to have a program automatic that adapts to the environment by itself. However, that is not available, so unfortunately, we have to deduct points here. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has been hearing poorly for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is an enormous relief. The volume does not have to be turned up to full immediately. One can start at a lower level, and gradually and almost unnoticed, the amplification approaches the target.

The Nexia 4 Akku ITE is rechargeable and no longer requires hearing aid batteries. This is environmentally friendly, as there are no old batteries to dispose of. At the same time, it is also extremely convenient, as there is no need to carry spare batteries. The hearing aids simply go into the charging station in the evening and are ready for use the next morning.

We also take a look at the robustness of the casing and find in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes dangerous after longer submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Before we reach the end, let's take a look at the extras: A special tinnitus program can be programmed upon request in the Nexia 4 Battery ITE. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly intense. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.

A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a precious commodity. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. Those who need a new programming for their hearing aids can easily contact the acoustician via the app and describe their hearing wishes. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send an individual setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be tested immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.

Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this ReSound model lacks the necessary sensors for this service. The device from ReSound focuses on essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation functions. While that would have been fun, it is not necessary for a good listening experience.
