What hearing comfort does the Nexia 4 CIC offer? How is it operated? Is it worth purchasing? Answers to these questions can be found in our review of this hearing aid from ReSound. First, the basics: It is worn in the ear, and due to its direct placement in the ear canal, sound can easily travel towards the eardrum. This is important because only in this way can a really good, wideband sound be produced.

Hearing comfort
In the first chapter, we evaluate the quality of sound management. We call this hearing comfort, as these features determine how pleasant the hearing aid wearer perceives the sound of their hearing aids. However, noises can be of various natures and require different tools for suppression. With the Nexia 4 CIC, solid comfort programming is possible through the hearing care professional. First, we consider noise suppression. This is intended to tame everyday sounds like the noise of ventilation or refrigerators. In this ReSound model, the noise suppression works fairly well. While there are other models that reduce background noise significantly more, this one should suffice for normal hearing daily life.
Fast, sharp sounds are detected here, but only moderately reduced. This device can recognize wind and slightly diminish the sound. Although the Nexia 4 CIC doesn’t have many adjustable equalizer bands, the 12 should be enough for good sound results. With the Nexia 4 CIC, 3D hearing does not need to be reconstructed, as it is preserved normally. This is made possible by the deep fit in the ear canal.
An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this ReSound model does not apply it yet.

Operation & connectivity
Every person has their own unique hearing needs. It is advantageous if one can customize their hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our test, we discovered the following access options: A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can adjust it in several steps to make it louder or quieter. Additional programs for specific hearing situations can also be activated with this. If someone wants to do without the button, they can simply have it deactivated. Remote controls for hearing aids are generally common today, but ReSound has not provided one for this device.
We are always pleased when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional function. For instance, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. However, it is not available in the Nexia 4 CIC at present. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of a finger, without the need to press a button. This feature has not yet been implemented here.
In the app store, we searched in vain for an app for further adjustments, which we would have preferred. A connection option to other audio sources is not provided here. It's a pity because a wireless streaming function would have offered real added value.

Simplicity & security
The test continues: How does it fare in terms of usability? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? When it comes to relaxed listening, the Nexia 4 CIC is only easy if one primarily stays in quiet listening environments. If it gets louder or more challenging, we receive no support from adaptive situational automation. At most, one can only help out with manual controls. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially if one has been hearing poorly for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is a huge relief. The volume does not have to be cranked up all at once. One can start at a lower level, and gradually and almost imperceptibly, the amplification approaches the target.
The Nexia 4 CIC is not rechargeable; it operates with hearing aid batteries. Unlike rechargeable batteries, it does not need to be charged daily; instead, the size 10 battery is replaced after a few days.
The Nexia 4 is nearly dust- and water-resistant, and with its IP 68 classification, it is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras
Manchmal sind es Kleinigkeiten, die ein Hörgerät perfekt machen. Deshalb gucken wir noch kurz nach den Extras, die möglicherweise hier drin stecken: ReSound hat einen Geräuschgenerator integriert, der für Tinnitus-Geplagte ein paar lindernde Klänge abspielt. Das kann vom Tinnitus ablenken und für etwas mehr Entspannung sorgen.
Wie sieht es denn aus mit einer Fernwartung? Solche Online-Services ersparen den Besuch im Fachgeschäft, weil man direkt über die App Kontakt um Akustik-Profi aufnehmen kann. Leider haben wir sowas für das Nexia 4 CIC nicht gefunden. Schade, das wäre ein tolles Zusatztool gewesen.
Ein neuer Trend in der Hörgerätebranche sind integrierte Sensoren, mit denen z.B. ein paar persönliche Gesundheitsdaten getrackt werden können. Das hat das Nexia 4 CIC aber nicht im Angebot. Bei anderen Hörgeräten gibt es schon ein paar erweiterte Optionen wie einen Sturzalarm oder Erinnerungsfunktionen. Hier finden wir das nicht, und das ist auch gar nicht so dramatisch, denn die normalen Hörfunktionen sind immer noch am wichtigsten.
