We tested a discreet, small hearing aid from the premium segment this time. It is the ReSound Nexia 7 Rechargeable ITE. It is worn in the ear and is designed for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing losses. Its positioning in the front part of the ear canal is due to its design, which also provides a nice, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
Our first test category is hearing comfort. We could actually say sound comfort, because that is primarily what it's about. Does the hearing aid sound very technical or beautifully natural? Are too many background noises amplified, or do they stay well in the background? In this device from ReSound, the manufacturer provides a comprehensive sound management system for the customer. The noise suppression is a very traditional feature; it filters out all background noises and reduces their volume. The Nexia 7 rechargeable ITE has implemented effective noise reduction. It is at a high performance level and offers the user very good comfort.
There is also wind management. We think this is very good because many people like to spend time outdoors. The reduction of wind noise occurs here at a medium level. Impulsive noises occur very often in everyday life. There’s the dishwasher that needs to be emptied or the keys being placed on the table. The Nexia 7 rechargeable ITE has strong impulse sound management that makes these sounds bearable. With 14 frequency bands, one can achieve quite a good sound. A passionate musician may not be completely satisfied with this, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is completely sufficient. We are satisfied with the spatial functions. The hearing aid has adaptive microphones that provide very good support for spatial hearing.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from ReSound.

Operation & connectivity
Most functions are activated automatically by this ReSound model. However, it can be very useful to be able to expand the range of functions a bit. In our test, we found out what options we have here. For those who want to quickly and easily increase or decrease the volume, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special listening situations through it. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to adjust the hearing aid volume or switch to a different hearing program. No one notices it, and reaching for the ear is not necessary.
We do not yet find the modern form of operation via voice command in the Nexia 7 Rechargeable ITE. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be conceivable, which would trigger a specific function by tapping your ear with your fingers. However, this option is not available in the Nexia 7 Rechargeable ITE.
Hearing aid apps are becoming increasingly popular. We are lucky with the Nexia 7 Rechargeable ITE: there is a suitable app. This app completely impressed us. It not only offers numerous possibilities to customize the hearing aids to one’s hearing preferences, but it also includes plenty of lifestyle features. The Nexia 7 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normally hearing individuals. We think this is great and are happy to give it points.

Here are our findings: In the Nexia 7 Battery ITE, we experienced an effective situation automation that supports our hearing well. This ensures that we don't constantly have to adjust the hearing aid. Some people struggle with adaptation, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is an acclimatization manager that gradually leads us to the required target amplification. The duration can be a few weeks or several months; it can be individually adjusted. The individual steps are so small that one hardly notices that there has been a volume increase.
The Nexia 7 Battery ITE is equipped with a rechargeable battery. We find that very advantageous, as rechargeable hearing aids are absolutely up-to-date. You don't have to have batteries lying around everywhere, nor do you have to change the battery in the middle of a concert. The hearing aid is simply placed in the charging station overnight and has enough energy for the following day.
With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot enter, it can endure prolonged submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.

We all like goodies, so let's take a final look at the extras that might be hidden in the hearing aid. Here, we noticed the tinnitus option. If desired, a special tinnitus program can be set up. This can create a gentle noise in the ears to distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be designed according to personal hearing preferences.
We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be utilized. If one does not have the opportunity to visit the hearing care professional, one can instead contact them through the app, briefly describe the hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, it can be loaded into the hearing aids.
There are no sensors in this Nexia 7 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps taken throughout the day are counted. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this feature. Other hearing aids do have a few extended options like a fall alarm or reminder functions. We do not find that here, and that is not so dramatic, because the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
